Pistol ball or small caliber rifle maybe.
Tucked behind canvas or cloth ect. it could give a tie point. One of multiple uses.
Given the erratic sprue it could be early in a casting run and was going to get remelted. Wrinkles should show from mold not being warm enough.
Or , just carefully loaded to have the crudely trimmed sprue up or down.
