Ok.. not really "my thing"i like the older stuff... but I have to admit.. seeing this pop out of the ground got my attention!!!

It is pretty heavy.. over an oz.. I included the best shots of the makers marks I could.. anyone have any idea what they mean?? This is only my second gold ring in 20 years.. the other being a 1870s ring about 1/8th the weight..
I assume it is a real diamond since it is a huge solid gold ring.. but I'll have to have it checked..
MB

The gold has been purified, and i might be adding some other scrap to it.. not sure if I am going to sell it.. might just get the little bar back.. stamped with the weight and purity.. the diamond is being recut.. which will increase the value because of the type of cut being done???? Turned out to be a very, very nice diamond!!! $$$$$

It is being checked out now.. just in time... with the new White's detectors coming out ;-)

Re: HUGE freaking gold ring...

good one!!! congrats

Re: HUGE freaking gold ring...

Well... the value is in.. 13.5K Gold at 16.6 grs.. and the stone was very nice.. over $1000.. so looking at a total of about $1300 + or- Good enough!!!!

Holy Cow Mark! Thats like 900.00 in gold and what ever the diamonds worth! Nice

$900?? Ok, I'm new at this gold thing... honestly this is my "first" new gold ring!!! I thought only only had dug one other but I had two.. both early.. the rest are typical plated.. so let me check my math here..

if gold is $1000 an Oz.. and there are 28.35 gs per.. that is $35 per gram? and if it is 14K.. that is 14/24 so 14K is $17.64 a gr?? So, 16.5gr x $17.63 is $291 total in gold value... or am I doing something wrong?? I thought that is how it was figured but I really don't know!!! ;-) The shop i took it to told me it would be better to have an oz of gold when it is refined..but there isn't anything else I want to melt.. so it is what it is.

I do know the diamond turned out to be very high on the scale.. very clear.. and a good color.. so that is where they say the $$$ is on this one..

man.. digging relics is soooo much easier!! ;-

Your math is correct. The gold is approximately $300 of value. The Diamond is rated on three C's
Carat, Color, Clarity. I would, guess without actually seeing it. 1/2 Carat, C grade maybe C+, Clarity looks on pic around a B. Stone alone would price around $1000+

OK.. thanks.. as with anything outside of my "knowledge"I start second guessing myself.. the stone was over 3/4 carat.. and "VS" or something like that.. with good white color and it had great luminescent as well... whatever that means???? I will get an official write up of it all... these are a couple of friends handling it for me... long time jewelers.. so i am very comfortable with their opinions.. they said their cost on a stone like that was over a grand... so that bodes well... ;-) The stone looked really "brown:in the pic.. it was my lighting and the dirt still packed around it.. come out nice and clean... no damage and like i said very clear.. looks like it will pay for a chunk of the new White's vision!!!

Not bad for 1.2 hours out in the field!!!

Sweet chunk of Gold! Hard to believe it's only your 2ND after 20 years. :icon_scratch:

Well.. I have a bunch of the fake plated ones from the 1800s.. but most of the sites I hunt are usually earlier.. and Civil War or colonial related... so.. it just works out that way.. heck I don't even have that many mercs!!!!

I hear ya. Rtde, this is the way us relic hunters live. Silver and Gold are not a part of our usual vocabulary.

This is a great find, MB. At an ounce in weight, even if it is 10K it has a good bit of gold in it.

You could take the ring into the jewelers and have them test the diamond and the gold. :icon_sunny:

Best Wishes,

thanks! I did a quick scan and actually I had 3 gold rings and a bunch of silver ones.. who knew?? The ring turned out to be almost 17 grams.. and the diamond is real.. 3/4 carat.. high quality... it is being shopped out for a price now but let's just say.. it will cover the cost of the new white's vision.. ;-) My weight guess was off by a bit.. but I was guessing.. it is a heavy darn ring though!!

The other gold rings I have are much earlier.. only one is marked.. 14K and is a small thing.. the other I post before.. a man's pinkie ring w/ a bloodstone.. 1870s or a little earlier..

Yeah baby!! Black socks.. golf shorts... I'm embracing my true age!! ;-) It "should" come in over $1300 all said and done.. count the cost of having it melted.. the diamond removed etc... I'm happy with it!!! The cost keeps bouncing around... bad market to be selling it seems.. :-( but hey.. pays for most of the white's Vision... that is all that counts!!

Might be.. I think retail.. I have no idea what the mark up is...dealer cost versus a normal person buying a finished stone.. ??? Way out of my comfort zone here.. but the jeweler is a friend of mine.. I've helped him a lot over the years with computer and network problems.. so I trust them to do the best they can for me... plus.. my call to him started with the "I was just going to call you" about some more computer/network work they needed... quid pro quo and all...
