Some years ago, I read a book by George Plimpton describing his experience trying out as quarterback of the Detroit Lions. It wasn't intended to be a legitimate effort at making the team, just an excuse to write a book. It ended up as "A Paper Lion" I believe, though some here may be able to correct the title. Anyway, yesterday, between a good luck piece and a Walker Half, I found this lion. It appears to be brass, and is pretty heavy for its size. It's about 4.5 inches long, about half the size of the picture. The best I can come up with is the top to a cane or walking stick of some sort. The bottom is open, with a half inch round hole that is a little more than an inch deep. If I was better at picture posting, I would use that method, but this scan is the best I can do right now. Any ideas?

I found something before not as big as this but I think it could be the top of an old lamp. The part that screws on top of the lamp shade to hold it down. Does it have threads in it. Nice lion though, whatever it is. Good luck.

No threads, but the opposite side has two holes around the bottom rings, as if a screw or something would hold it onto wood. Lamp finials have a smaller circumference and diameter, however you choose to measure.

Sounds like a good cane topper.

Door knocker?
