Stopped at a small town park I have never hunted before over lunch today. First deep coin signal was hitting in the wheat penny range. I dug it out and was surprised to see a nice green indian staring back at me. I couldn't see the date so I hit it with my water spray bottle and couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the date. 1877!!. This is my second 1877 indian head now. I dug one last year and unfortunately I scratched it good with my digger. Not this time! This one survived unscathed and it is in pretty good condition too. Only had about 30 minutes to hunt but I found this and a 1918 wheat penny so I am very pleased with the results. 20190904_114448.webp20190904_170254.webp20190904_170241.webp

Huge congrats on the Banner, wow, you dug 2 in 2 years, that's awesome. Many will never pull one detecting. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy: :headbang::headbang: :occasion14:

That is the CLEANEST 1877 I've ever seen dug! VERY NICE!!!

Congratulations, that Indian is in excellent shape.

That's the one alright! Great find. I once found a 1779 on the shore of Senace Lake here in NYS at an old Ferry stop. It was before I knew what a key date Indian was...I posted it here and found out I had just missed a jackpot find. I scratched it too, so I'm glad it was not a 1777.

Am I the only person to notice his dug picture is not the same as the example pictures he shows below it?

Cool coin- but I think a lot of you voted banner without realizing what he found vs what his example pics were.

I believe it's the same coin. Look closely at the details.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1569380404.110907.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1569380423.176375.webp

It is absolutely the same coin. If it is not then that means I have 3 1877 indian heads lol. I spent some time and effort cleaning it up before the last photo and the first picture is shortly after I dug it and simply wiped it with my fingers.

You made banner, NICE! Wonder what that coin would bring? Super find!
Thanks a lot!!
Big Congrats,

That one is in nice condition.

I've dug over a 1000 Indian heads in my career and do not have the 77. Have just about everyone but the 77. maybe one day and gives me hope there still out there.

Thanks!!

Lol actually it wasn't. When I dug my first 2 years ago I was not even aware it was a key date as I rarely dug Indians. So I checked it off the list before I knew how rare it was. Then when I dug this 2nd one I could barely believe it.

Here is the 1877 I found 2 years ago that I gouged with my lesche when digging it out. Just for comparison on quality of the coins. I am glad I learned my lesson on the first one lol.

Congrats then. You have amazing cleaning skills. Mine start like yours looked, but the more I clean, the worse they look.
