....but for the third weekend in a row, I found somthing! Makes me happy. I'm pretty sure the first is a grinding/ hammering/abrading kinda stone. Not sure what to call it, but it has 4 flat surfaces on each side of the edges, and the two ends are uniformly pitted? Pictures don't show that so well, they are shaped a little different, but have the same kind of wear. The flat surfaces have small grooves going across the grain of the rock. This is one of the most intentional pieces of sandstone I've seen, it can't be just a rock.

A nice scraper? preform? I wonder if it's a reject because it has a shattered look on part of it, with the flaking too. Or was that a break caused by nature? It's thick, sharp, even the breaks are sharp. No kind of wear or bouncing around in the water it seems, but it was found by the water.

And y'all ever seen a gar scale like that?

I would love it to be a "Mini perd", and I googled for hours, gars have ganoid scales I learned, and they all seem to be diamond shaped. There are cylcoid, cosmoid and who knows what other 'roids.

But none look like this so far. That's ok, I like a puzzle. Sometime, somewhere a picture will show up.

No Tn, not bummed now. It's funny while I had it, I was pretty sure it was a fish scale, when I lost it, I was pretty sure it was a one-of-a-kind point. Now that I have it again, it's a fish scale. Going to a wildlife expo soon, and there will be state biologists there, I bet one of them can help me. In the meantime, it's with my other points, not my other scales. it's harder than any shell I've found. The material is just like a gar scale.

Naturegirl, I really just meant the form of the scale looks like a small perd. Sorry if I got your hopes up, I should have been more specific in my reply. Not to take anything away from your find though because it does look like a utilized scale from here.

Hey thirty7! that's ok, I really do think it's a scale, it just looks so much like something, that it deserves to be ID'd. It adds to my little eccentric collection I've got going. don't worry about getting my hopes up, :wink:
