Look at the size reference 3" long, now look at the pencil.
Now look at the finial you posted.
Right idea but not for a post, it might be for the single picket.

DEFINITELY not a fence post finial unless its from a fence for elves. And anybody that tries to pour me a beer from a barrel with that little thing as the tap valve is going to see me walk out and go to another bar.

There was a reason that I took the photo with a ruler and a pencil next to it.

That's a guess, isn't it? Can you please find me a picture of a plumb bob that looks anything like that? Especially one with that rectangular hole through it.

Never mind. I'm wrong about the plumb Bob. It looks like that bottom part fits flush into something, and sits flush around that rim ..

That far left one is the closest. My piece is 72mm.

No, it is non-magnetic. Copper or brass, most likely. No real corrosion on it, so that eliminates zinc or other white metals.

It has that air of antiquity about it. If I found sonething like that here in England my initial thoughts though not having a clue as to what it actually is woild be that it's post medieval, 18th century at the very latest.
I've found many conformed 17th items that have that "look"

Being of a nonferrous item it pretty well illuminates the finial option as well.
