Nova Convertible Project

The 1st Friday in June they close down Grand Ave. and only cars that are a least 20 years old are allowed to drag, it is alot of fun to go watch> and I love the flames and ligts around the bottom and tag, the cars with rumble seats I could just go on and on!

Every Friday at nearby shopping center they have car shows during the summer.
Just a local thing and no charge as it is in the parking lot.
Sometimes 50 more or less custom cars are there.
57 Chevys, Boss Mustangs, Chrystler hemis, etc.
Lots of Muscle cars and stock low mile/rebuilt, oldies too.
Brings a joy to me to see.

Thanks for sharing.

Ok, finally able to fill request of wanting more pics.

I have the 383 small block Chevy Stroker engine mostly finished and installed.

I bought the 383 as a short block,so i had to find a set of heads and everything above the block.I had a set of Vortec heads laying around that i knew would make for extra horse power but knew that some of the stock components may not hold up for the cam that is in the engine. So I Found some used roller rockers and changed the valve springs to help out for the proper rating and felt comfortable with this and installed them on the engine and painted the block and heads the same color as the engine bay and transmission.
Now up for task is the intake and carburator to match up with all the internal components. This is where i am thinking of what direction do I want to take,so I get on some website Classifieds and checkout what might be a great deal and catch my eye for this project. It took me a couple days but finally I found what would look Awesome and handle the engine well,it's a endurashine Edelbrock 2-4 intake with 2 endurashine Edelbrock 500 carbs. This guy had bought this stuff for his project and than was laid off from his job and needed to sell,so I made him a reasonable offer and the sale was final. I got it all bolted on and installed the distributor and i couldn't be any happier on the engine compartment project.I will still need to do some wiring and run a gas lineand a few other misc to be able to start it, but it all takes time.

Thanks,
it does take alot of time and work, that's for sure. I was lucky enough to keep alot of parts over the yrs to build this project and sell some extra parts to help finance it. Another Great thing is the internet,if i didn't have ebay and other classifieds i would never be able to complete a project of this level.

Thanks again,

You have a special gift. That is totally amazing to be able to do what you do. Thanks for filling me in on your project. I will keep watching for new pictures.

Weren't the double hump heads with 2.02" intakes called "fueler" heads?

Looking good Nova.

Had problems back in the day with torque busting motor mounts so we chained engine to frame.
Kept having to replace cap & rotors before.

Wow, this project is really moving pretty fast ! Looks like with some of these parts you are throwing at it, this Nova is gonna really scream ! I got to looking at the vortech heads you have on there, they look like they have the old double hump markings, like on an old 327, I used to have.
Just curious, how hard is it to get the two carbs in sync with each other ?
Anyway, this is turning out to be an absolutly beautiful car. I just can't wait to see the next pics of the progress !

Thanks, I have a set of the old 300 hp double hump heads, they are quite different, but it is intereting they have similar markings.
The carbs can be a pain to tune in but i don't plan on kicking them in much anyway .

Thanks again,Nova Treasure

Thanks,
Yes they were called that, they came in 300 hp with 194 valves and 375 hp with the 202 valves.
Nowadays to have these rebuilt,it is actually more economical to use the vortec heads and they actually flow better, but for originality the heads can be redone for around $450.

We chained motor mounts also, then went to a rigid mount on one side.

Before that, we took an 8lb sledge to the firewall and moved it back a bit at the distributor location. ;D

Can I bring my performance engine problem over here where the motorheads hang out?

I'll delete if u don't want me to hop on your thread....

Popped the 2nd plug in 2 months on the '02 Lightning. 40k miles.

Bought the Timesert kit. Works great.

When it pops the plug it wipes out a coil pack for another $50.

So we did a bank, this time, two last time. Need more inserts to finish last 2.

Well, here's what I think might be the next problem...

Here's a pic of the throttle showing burned oil back on the outside of the throttle plate.
Much more on one side than the other, for some reason.
Yes, it's got an oiled K&N air filer on it...

I'm wondering if that burned oil is a sign of bad valves.
Really shouldn't have anything going backwards, since it's got the blower, but???

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Kicking myself because we didn't do a leakdown test when we had the plugs out.

Thanks,
rmptr

I once asked a classic car owner how much money would it take to restore an old car.

His answer..............How much do you have??
