OIL PRICE****

$1.69 9/10 in Crossett, AR ... sure wish I could have found some of those "cheap" prices mentioned in another post when I was in Orlando week before last. $1.99 9/10 to $1.91 9/10 everywhere, and $2.39 9/10 in Fort Walton Beach area.

the thieves are still charging over $2.00 here
and since Oil Prices are Rising again They are probably ready to Raise gas prices at the Pump again

Last week I went to Phoenix: $1.99 then returned to Calif: $3.09.
Reason given in the media: Maintenance on a refinery in Torrance.
I don't buy into that; sounds more like greed to me.
People seem to be fed up; hybrid and all electric car sales are booming.
Don....

Yup, and people around here are changing over to pellet and wood stoves to heat their homes. The greedy oil companies thought the demand would just go up and up, while OPEC kept production down. Didn't work out that way, boys.

Don't sneeze, they will use that as an excuse to raise the price of gas/oil.

They can't be hurting too bad for $$. Remember when diesel fuel was always cheaper than gas, then when we had that gouge of gas price increases to 5 bucks a gallon. After that diesel always remained higher than gas. Since trucks are what transports just about everything, I think they are probably making more money than ever, and are willing to back down on the price if gas, after all they can raise it anytime, and what if anything can we do about it... not much.

A year ago we had a 50% increase in electric rates, and this year our local nuclear power plant announced it will be shutting down in 2017...seems they can't afford to adhear to new regulations, at lest that's the line they are feeding the public.
I think our electric rates are about to soar like a bird.
So those that have electric cars may not be ahead if the game.

We are lambs on the slaughter table with conglomerates fighting over the knife.

Same situation with airfares. Airlines are raking it in; but do I see fares being lowered or talk of increasing leg room? NO.
Greed continues to trump other issues.
Don....

yes Check this out.

Those of us who went through the trouble of becoming More Efficient with their Electric,
Now get Screwed

DSCF0001.webp

if you only use 500 kwh of Electric Our bills go up.

If we use 1000 kwh, or more our Bills drop

They are crying already over people saving Energy, dipping into their Pockets.

Back when there was only PPL here My bill per month was $38.00 a month.
since they changed things & added competition.

PPL still gets over $23.00 in Distribution Charges & that is before $21.00 in Generation Charges

Competition was to help lower rates

It never ends. Just where the heck do they think people are going to get money to pay all these increases...print it??!!!

The part that really irks me is they have it rigged so that even if you cut back your electric use, because of all the fees, fines, taxes, & etc that are reoccurring monthly charges,
You save very little if any!
They have taken away our control.
Even now I'm constantly running around shutting off lights and things. I've switched most bulbs to led.
Like you said, because we saved & cut back, they want more.
I think it never has been about people cutting back consumption It's about increasing corps. bank rolls...always has been, they just wrap it in a nice sounding lie so they can get us to swallow it.

yep I just checked my kwh's
I almost cut mine in Half

& am paying almost Twice what I was before

They have us dancing the 3 step...one step forward, 2 steps back!
Boy would I love to give them back their meter and all!
Then there are all the alternative source companies saying you pay nothing for the equipment, & something about 20 years.
It would be refreshing to hear the truth from these industries.

Absolutely agree.... If we all cut back and/or find a way to save some energy then there revenue goes down and they want it back (stock holders and all). Same for electric vehicles... Won't be long till the state starts losing money from the gas tax because of efficiency. Then they'll start charging more from these vehicles in registration fees. There goes your savings then.

TRUE STORY: Back in 88-89 I bought a huge old home in S.W. MI. This home was one of oldest in the village. I owned it for about 3 months and was down in the basement one day really looking around. Found an old pipe capped off with some boards around it coming from the ground. I uncapped the pipe and found out it was an old well. Soooo.... I got a external pump and started to pump water outside. It went on for 2 days without running out. I shut off and had water tested.... Came back better than the city's water. I hooked up a holding tank, switch and tapped into my homes main line on my own. I told nobody except my best friend. I then asked the city to shut off the water.... NOPE... no can do! If you live there you HAVE to have city water. And, your sewage bill is based upon your water usage. I said so if I don't pay my bill will you shut it off? Well of course they said.... Hummmmm.

I just let it go... I installed a ball valve on the house main from city and barely cracked it open and turned on my new water source. Worked great. Paid minimum water bill for 6 years. I dismantled entire system before I sold the home.

Well thank ya stick.... I know some will think what I did was "wrong" possibly but I think it was innovating. "They" said you have to have water... but ... they'll shut it off if you don't pay the bill....? :dontknow:

Now on the flip side I TRULY suspect that they wondered how this residence's water bill dropped so drastically. But me living in the city then wasn't exactly a good match... we had many other problems. But those are stories outside of the threads intent.

I see nothing wrong with providing for yourself. You were still using city water, just not a lot of it. If they had asked I would have told them I cut back to one shower a week. Lol!
I love innovation, one of the few things we have left!
They could probably turn it all off and we would still be paying more.

ABSOLUTELY.... and it's a dying breed of folks who utilize it (or can)... to their advantage. But DAMN you if you find a "loophole". Everybody HAS to stay in step... or the "system" starts to break down.

I'd love to share other examples... but this thread wouldn't last long and it's not mine. AND I APOLOGIZE! We'd have to move to the political forum to continue quickly... sorry.

Would if I could but not a member there.
So I have to behave myself here. But I bet there are some doizies!

Frank would probably like his thread back, sorry Frank, I get carried away...at times!
