I went to a spot which is right outside the French quarter in New Orleans and I went to the spot IMG_2037.webp
Unfortunately they had about 8 inches of fill so that was unfortunate, but directly across the street they were doing construction and it was fenced off I wanna walk up to the fence I could see hundreds of chard glass I mean it was everywhere so of course I’m thinking caviar dreams of silver so I caught one of the guys leaving and I asked him if I could Metal Detecting there he said sure knock yourself out. It was hard wasn’t as easy as I thought if I was looking for charred glass it would be easy even marbles I got a little figurine I got a 2 1/2 cent token which had no advertising just a 2 1/2. Then I start to clean what I thought was a piece of land and working it with my pencil it says ONE CENT Which would only be my second I have ever gotten in my five years my question to you is do I put a light electrolysis on it? I know it sounds crazy but I put a one cent That showed nothing so I had nothing to lose and it came out like thisimage-2021-05-13-21:15:12-228.webp

The question is is do I gamble on this piece or do I just do the best I can on cleaning it with my Andre crayon? Now I have ruined a lot of things trying to get a date I have to admit my record isn’t too well but I’m also a gambling man which is always been my downfall I have my face scanned at every casino we got down here so I can’t gamble anymore true story. It’s so evil out here in New Orleans LOL So this is what I found today I will first show you my ONE CENT image-2021-05-13-21:20:21-528.webp

I agree it looks absolutely beautiful in my hand. My friend is a marble nut ad said this one was around 1880’s. This detecting hobby is turning in to 8 other addictions. Is this how hoarders start?

You beat me too it Truth, I was going to say, "nice Bennington Marble find". :laughing7:
The way I look at attempting to 'restore' any relic find with surface damage... if it doesn't turn out the way you want, then go find yourself another one.
Sometimes the environmental damage is just too extensive, so it's not your fault if the details don't come back.
The point here is that you took the initiative to find it, that's all that matters. :occasion14:

I love the 'Reclining Putti/Child', how did she clean up?
Dave

She cleaned up beautifully tats for asked is that the proper name for it Dave?

I’ve been there 2 week mini vaca

Hi Truth, My wife keeps me chained too a massive steel pole in the back yard :laughing9:

A lot of my landowners get a case of beer.
Here in the north, I'll often pick up a half dozen muffins or donuts from Tim Hortons for the property owner.
Food gifts always = new permissions here. :laughing7:

I'm generalizing Truth, I call any child like/angelic figure a 'putti'. :laughing7:

"Putto (Italian), plural putti, a nude chubby child figure, often with wings, frequently appearing in both mythological and religious paintings and sculpture, especially of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Originally limited to profane passions in symbolism, the putto came to represent the sacred cherub, and in Baroque art the putto came to represent the omnipresence of God."

I've actually been to New Orleans 3 or 4 times to work the American Rental Association Show (ARA), my favourite restaurant there is Mulate's. It's right across the street from the New Orleans Convention Center, so we went there every night after the show. I also love the sense of history, the music and the French culture of your city.

Antiquarian I know Mulate’s very well they make their gumbo with a dark roux and I like that. Next time you’re in town I’ll bring you to some hole in the wall places that the food will make you cry :laughing7
