Old Amusement Park Gives...LARGE CENT (I'll EXPLAIN...)
What a cool find today at the old amusement park site. This is one of my favorite all time sites because it's the first time (a few years ago) that some intensive research paid off. I learned that the site of a modern day college was an amusement park in the early 1900s. I found photos (see below) showing where everything was, compared it to today, and realized though everything was whiped out by the college, there is still original land (woods) on the far side of a stone wall that is there today. So 2-3 years ago I found my first Barber Half, a couple of mercs and a couple of silver Washingtons in those woods. Been back a few times since and nothing much. Today I was in the area and decided to give it a shot...before it was an amusement park it was an estate in the 1800s...I hadn't found anything after almost a couple of hours and was heading up the hill toward my car detecting and hit a great signal...dug, dug and...well, see below -- my LARGE find...she's in amazing shape thanks to handy cleaning and electrolysis (briefly) by Earthworks. Thanks for his photography as well. Best looking one I've found so far. Must have been new when lost. I've included photo of amusement park. This find was made toward the far lower left of the photo left of where the domed building and roller coaster are in the photo (and of course, she was in the ground when this old photo was taken many decades ago). Interestingly, the roller coaster pictured held the world speed record from 1927 to 1981 -- 65.2 MPH
