Haven't had much time to dig this week, last night after dinner the wife says go hunting and maybe you will stop that nervous twitching.
I head over to a large Jr. college in my neighborhood that is my go-to site when I don't want to drive far.
I have been all over this place and I wasn't really expecting much, just digging in the dirt was calming me down, but in a grassy island dividing a large parking lot next to a curb I found this.
Came up clean as a whistle from about 2" deep, and has that old world hand made look about it...real old.
Some kind of partial mark inside, but I think this thing is so old it was made before it was a law that marks had to be stamped, or it has been passed down and worn so much most of the marks inside have just been worn off.
I know it's gold, but I really need to stop putting off ordering a test kit because I believe this is my first piece of gold that is at least 18k...maybe even higher.
It just has that really old gold look.
This is gonna kill me till I test it or have it tested to find out.
Also that seems to be an actual, natural pearl mounted in this beautiful little thing.

It's almost sad to find heirloom stuff like this because I think it was probably passed down through a few generations, but the wife is really happy because it fits her perfectly and she has already claimed it.
Getting it away from her to take these pics took some real effort.

I set a personal goal this year to find 12 pieces of gold in any form, one for each month of the year.
I just love to set goals and then hit them.
6 months in I have found one gold bracelet and this makes my 5th gold ring.
All found with the F2 and my buddy the little sniper coil.
This is shaping up to be my best year ever in quantity and quality.

Very neat find! Bet your wife will be encouraging you to hunt more often lol.

She doesn't seem to get all this digging stuff, but she does seem a little impressed with the amount of jewelry that I find.
Mostly she just scarfs up the smaller gold pinky rings because she likes those the best, but I will just sell the bigger stuff and spend most of that on her and get her some nicer jewelry, anyway.
She's worth it.

((edit :censored: coffee is not working yet another ring lost to the "Wife" effect)If this was my ring wife would never even see it (if i had one)) Think I would look into selling that one for some new gear maybe, get it professionally appraised and get second opinions.. Pearls can be quite valuable depending on the type grade etc. That ring is a superb find :treasurechest: :treasurechest: :treasurechest:

That is a beautiful ring! Definitely old. I have the same goal this year. I'm at 5 so far. I'm just getting into Myrtle Beach now so hopefully I can get #6! HH!

Very nice and it should make sure your wife lets you go MD

Nah...I have plenty of other gold rings neither of us want to sell for melt.
Some of them are a little to nice to melt down so I am gonna try Craiglist or some auction sites.

The one below is mine and it will be sold on the street for sure as soon as I get off my lazy butt to do it.
That one is going to pay for most of the new F75 LTD I think I want to play around with and learn next.

What did the ring came up as on f2?? I've a f2 myself... Trying to figure it out.

Nice gold/pearl ring! It's worth giving to your wife to help raise her opinion about your detecting.

Glad your OK with it there Digger, my finds out here are very meager. As far as I am concerned "Tecting" is an endangered hobby out here. I seldom ever see anyone detecting. To get my last gold ring with the E-Trac, which was a tiny one, I have dug tons of trash . Got "zero-zip-nada" gold rings with the Safari. And before that none with Sovereign except for a couple I was called on to find. Back pedaling to the old "Glory Days" when I was a new returnee to detecting with a Tesoro Bandito was my first and pretty much only gold ring find in the wild and it was a very nice one.

It was a pretty solid 27-28 with a slight jump to 30, but I turned and hit it from another direction and it became a firm 28-30.
This is a solid signal as far as I am concerned so I dug it as I do all solid signals I come across.
This is actually strange because most gold I have dug might be disguised as trash, but it is usually a solid signal with no more than a jump in 2 numbers and hits the same from all directions.
I expected a large piece of foil or a decent size piece of can slaw but...surprise!

Not sure if you can post links to other forums here, but I have a ton of info available about using the F2 I can pass on.
Maybe send me a PM and I can do that.
On some forums a few call me a master of the F2.
Don't know about that, but I have helped cut down the learning curve for many new owners.
I originally bought it just to take on vacation with me and as a backup so this is not the only one I use, I also have a Vaq and a Compadre, use them often and I am pretty good with those too, but when using that F2 it just seems to talk to me like no other and I have learned it's language pretty fluently.
Still learning though...that stuff never ends.

I have been doing this for a little over 3 years and because for the first 2 I lived in Birmingham Alabama with some of the worst soil you can imagine, I took the easiest route and tried to learn to become a great jewelry hunter because that stuff can be anywhere and usually isn't really deep.
You can find silver coins there, the old guys in the local MD club found a bunch going back to the 70's, but nowadays it is not easy and depth is extremely limited and so much is now out of reach of most any detector except maybe PI units and only by thinking way outside the box to find different kinds of sites can it be done in public places.

Over time I got pretty good at discovering sites most don't think about hunting and find they can contain a much higher percentage of jewelry if you find them and hunt them correctly.
I moved to Kansas about 18 months ago and all that stuff I learned works even better here.

This is most of my best finds for this year starting Jan. 1.
Everything was found with the F2 and the sniper coil except for the silver pendant with the big fake rock which was found with my Compadre.
That was also something else the wife confiscated immediately.

I really do want an F75.
I am so good with the F2 I just wonder what I can do with something like that, but I seem to do very well with whatever I am swinging at the time, even these so called lower end models.
For me it is just a matter of logical thinking in finding good sites, learning my detectors the best that I can and digging a bunch because the x ray vision thing still isn't working for me.

I agree with your analysis. I'd say 22-24K gold with a genuine pearl.... Not sure of the age, maybe that mark could shed some light. If your wife is going to wear it you should get it appraised and insured...
Keep @ it and HH !!

Thanks for your opinion!
I have never found anything past 14k so far.
If this is 18 k I will be thrilled.
If it is 22k I will hit my knees.
If it is 24k get the smelling salts.

Some very nice pictures there thanks, and will be checking back to see what carat the ring is and am wondering if the pearl is a natural or a cultured one. If it is older it could be a natural one if i recall right the natural are worth a lots more.
