Old Misshapen Copper Coin

Good morning, I went out hunting in the same spot where I found the Vermont state copper. I was working slowly and got a bit of a flaky coin tone on the Equinox. I dig, and just three inches down I found this misshapen copper coin.







The Equinox identified this target as a coin all day long, but the target did sound "out of round." After seeing the shape of the coin I now know why.

I would love to know what it was... You can see the edge in one of the photographs, and if you hold the coin at the proper angle in direct sunlight you can see trace details, but not enough (at least for me) to identify the coin.

Maybe you can try a pencil drawing. Put the coin under a piece of paper and rub lightly over it with a pencil. It may pull some more detail out of it.

I believe you can see the back of a bust belonging to a draped bust on the second pic.

Looks like either a Draped Bust or a Liberty Cap! Nice Find!

Nice coin that would drive me crazy I would clean it more and put it under a microscope.......
