Out scouting a new permission and found this in the old dump site behind the house. Found in middle TN. It's about 7 3/4 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches in depth. Number 673 stamped on the bottom. Heavy for it's size. Thanks for looking.
Not sure. It looks like it probably had a lid that was held in place by the bail handle when “up.” At first I thought it resembled part of a mess kit, but appears too heavy to have been carried by a person hiking/marching.

I'm guessing meant to hang over open fire or fireplace, with hole in handle and no legs. Cool looking
No legs but the bottom is recessed leaving a 1/4 inch rim around the outside and a "channel" around the inside. The channel reminds me of one of those pans that collects the grease while cooking.

No legs can also mean it would sit flat in a wood stove top.

Reminds me of an outdoor ashtray that hung on a cast iron stand, the ashtray was filled with sand.
