As many of you know, I've been hitting these old woods since last summer, and you also know I've found some really great coins and relics there. Well, after three hours of hunting them today, I finally came up with a nice keeper - a 1905-S Barber dime in extremely fine condition. Below is a tally of keepers found in these woods.

1738 King George II Colonial Copper
1778 Spanish 1 Reale
1780s Nova Constellatio Copper
1803 Kettle Replica or Game Marker Coin
1829 Capped Bust Half Dime
1841 Seated Liberty Dime
1842 Large Cent
1852 Silver Three Cents Piece
1863 Indian Head Penny
1864 Counterfeit California Gold Dollar Coin
1894 Barber Quarter
1897 Barber Dime
1902 Barber Dime
1905-S Barber Dime
1920 Buffalo Nickel
1920 Walking Liberty Half Dollar (Found By My Friend)
1937 Mercury Dime
1952 Washington Quarter
Four or Five Other Indian Head Pennies (Can't Remember The Dates) And A Few Wheat Cents.

Also In The Keeper Case:
Very Worn Colonial Copper Probably William III (1650-1702)
Very Corroded King George II Colonial Copper
C1820-1830 US Navy Button In Extremely Fine Condition
C1900 Admiral Dewey "Welcome Our Hero" Souvenir Medal
C1920 Knights Templar Medal From Syracuse New York
C1937 Speed Gibson's Flying Police Tin Badge (Radio Premium Missing Back Pin)

It seems that from the 17th century through to about the mid 19th century it was owned by one of Long Island's oldest families and probably used as farmland. There are also three remaining cellar holes, and according to the town oldtimers, the houses were still standing and occupied in the 1940s or early 50s.

Great find!!!
almost looks like a fresh drop ;D

man I'd love to find a Barber dime that wasn't worn smooth!

Great find.

Wow, that is one beautiful coin. I'd like to find something like that for sure.

The soil conditions seem perfect for coins there!

Waiting to see what you find next!

Nice find but I am perplexed how a San Francisco mint coin in brand new condition made it's way to the east coast in or around 1905. That was quite a journey in the early 20th century.

Hmmm... So your perplexed? Give me a break. Quite a journey? A few days by train. By your tone, you actually seem to be questioning that I dug the coin. I've probably spent at least 75 hours searching these woods, and have found much better things than a Barber Dime in extremely fine condition. I would never, repeat never, fabricate a find. Go to my profile and click into my previous posts and please let me know if any of my other finds leave you feeling perplexed.
