As many of you know, I've been hitting these old woods since last summer, and you also know I've found some really great coins and relics there. Well, after three hours of hunting them today, I finally came up with a nice keeper - a 1905-S Barber dime in extremely fine condition. Below is a tally of keepers found in these woods.

1738 King George II Colonial Copper
1778 Spanish 1 Reale
1780s Nova Constellatio Copper
1803 Kettle Replica or Game Marker Coin
1829 Capped Bust Half Dime
1841 Seated Liberty Dime
1842 Large Cent
1852 Silver Three Cents Piece
1863 Indian Head Penny
1864 Counterfeit California Gold Dollar Coin
1894 Barber Quarter
1897 Barber Dime
1902 Barber Dime
1905-S Barber Dime
1920 Buffalo Nickel
1920 Walking Liberty Half Dollar (Found By My Friend)
1937 Mercury Dime
1952 Washington Quarter
Four or Five Other Indian Head Pennies (Can't Remember The Dates) And A Few Wheat Cents.

Also In The Keeper Case:
Very Worn Colonial Copper Probably William III (1650-1702)
Very Corroded King George II Colonial Copper
C1820-1830 US Navy Button In Extremely Fine Condition
C1900 Admiral Dewey "Welcome Our Hero" Souvenir Medal
C1920 Knights Templar Medal From Syracuse New York
C1937 Speed Gibson's Flying Police Tin Badge (Radio Premium Missing Back Pin)

Hey Fish:

I think you may have tried to read between the lines too much. I did not mean to sound like I doubted your post. I have seen almost all of your previous posts, and being from your area, I am familiar with the very woods you search. I have also spoken with people you have met in person, and they speak well of you.

All I meant was that is was unusual for a coin to make it's way to the east coast in the early 20th century. I rarely find mintmarks on any coin before the 1940's.

I guess it gives new meaning to "Change at Jamaica"

I apologize if you missinterpreted my reply. I am also glad to see I am not the only one on the forum at 2:00 AM!!

That is a great list of finds that you have there.... Keep up the great work, and leave no stone unturned.

God bless
Peter

That is a beautiful Barber!

I have no problem believing that an s minted coin from that time period would be found in your area.During both world wars, thousands of soldiers came from the west coast to embark for Europe.

There is no way to be certain when that coin was dropped.I found a 1913 Barber dime in the woods about a month ago,it is almost in the same condition as yours.Mine was found on top of the ground in a cow trail, bright and shiney as the day it was minted.

An exquisite coin! I looked up its value and it appears that the few years before are less common (1903 and 04S). That is quite a list; you have found a great place. Look forward to more from you.

Okay Neil, thanks. I appreciate that. I got defensive and over-reacted. I'm sorry for taking your words the wrong way.

Great coin! Its very hard to find barbers in that good condition and even harder to try to purchase one.Barbers due to design flaw just accept wear and fade out fast.Your looks like it could grade AU.

That's a bunch of great stuff! Congrats!

Beautiful Barber dime Bookfisher! Great details. Congrats! HH
