Sooooooooo why isnt it all black ?

Likely Cause he found it on land in favorable soil conditions & not in a lake, Ocean ,or Creek.

That is simply amazing to find a coin like that as your first coin! I would bet that 99% of people find a Lincoln penny as their first coin. I have dug thousands of coins over the years, but only one was a 5 cent silver, and it was a Capped Bust. I have never found a Seated half dime. Can't wait to see what your second coin will be.

you are officially ruined for life * --to dig a 1858 (pre civil war era) seated half dime (silver five cent piece) from the New Orleans mint "o" in great shape as your first coin --well sadly that's just about as good as it gets * its all down hill from here. ---sweet find -- my only seated half dime -- I ever found was a 1838 "no stars" "o" --it was so worn I could barely ID it.

Lmao! I am going to make it my mission to prove you wrong... You know, I guess I didn't really realize how rare it was to find one until I posted it here. Hell, I was praying to find at least a wheatie, and would have been just as excited to find one as I was with this dime. To tell the truth, before I got my MD in October and started reading these forums and watching youtube, I didn't even know a half dime existed. Now, after reading these posts and doing some research, I feel truly blessed and I am extremely grateful. Thank everyone for sharing in my excitement with me. And I wish that everyone finds somthing rare and amazing on their next hunt!

Very nice, my first silver was a Rosie. I have found a half-dime too since then. So welcome to that little club !!

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Thank you! Some people (huuhuum. LOL!) are saying I have nothing else to look forward to... I don't believe it myself.

If I had supernatural powers I would be finding Spanish gold. I do have 3 step daughters and 3 boys of my own. (Brady Bunch) but when I realized what I had all I could say was. Omg, Omg, Omg! And that was because it was a COIN and not a rusty iron relic or bullet of some kind. I Didn't realize at the time the rarity of the coin.

Thanks MsBeepbeep. I live in Tx not far from the Gulf so the ground never freezes. Imo winter is a great time to hunt because summer is unbearably hot, humid, and ridden with mosquitos.
