I been totally dying for an old abandoned home to detect. Well a farmhouse that must been a real beauty in its day has been decaying off a main highway for years n years . Today I thought screw it, I'm swinging by And gonna detect. It's been ransacked so many times.
I pull in with my truck and realize I can't turn around. And I can't see to back out on a major highway . Brand new friggin truck and I get wedged... Took me a half hour to move stuff out of tbe way to just be able to turn around. And even tben, I had to pull into briars and trees and trash . I got out and Everything lit up the detector... Rocks, dirt, coal, foil of every kind. . It was hopeless.
I go down to the old spring house and get my foot wedged Inbetween stones... And a snake and a zillion frogs were jumping all around me.. Lol. It was so creepy.
So I been friggen buffing the truck for hours, trying to get rid of tbe stratches before the hubby gets homes and sees it. Uuhhhggggg
So much potential!!! But it was insane.. Everything lit up like trash... Sending the detector into a frenzy.
Not to mention , I had just come from a dr's appointment and had heels on... Lmao.... I'm not to bright sometimes . I think I have to electrolosize them to get the impacted crust off.

This kind of gets me fired up! Why do people have to attack someone, or anyone, on a public forum? What's the point? Leave the girl alone! Geez, she didn't do anything wrong, and she surely doesn't need every word, or statement analyzed and judged! She, nor anyone, needs to justify anything to anyone on here, as long as they are not insulting, or hurting anyone else.

It's supposed to be fun, entertaining, interesting, and maybe a little educational!

I just started on this forum and some of you are already making me want to leave!

Chill!

Geez guys give her a break.Holly gets a few unwanted comments, retaliates and then is pounced on.What I gather Holly is that you were just checking the place out before deciding to go back another time and had bad luck getting out and didn't want your better half to notice the scratches on your truck, understandable.I too have done stuff and not wanted my husband to find out,he thinks I'm a bit too independent sometimes and wants to be my protector which is all good and well him being the manly man he is and all, lol.

Ty for that. Apparently it would seem , just me being a woman gets people ready to fire away at me. I shared something funny that happened to me while detecting... And I got somebody telling me I shouldn't detect anymore, people questioning my character , and the stupidest part of all bringing into it what I look like. What in God's name does that have to do with liking to dig up history and talk about it ? And judging my character by my profile picture ? From now on, I'm saying this is me... Lol

Is he appropriate for this site? If so, that's me... Lol

The black hole between Montana and Colorado.
Detector(s) used
Truffle seeking pig modified for metal.

The results have been so-so

When the pig fails me (which is often), I am relegated to a CTX3030 *sigh*. Like the dark ages or something.

To further that, honest and helpful comments are essentially ignored.

By only responding to the negative ones, it is only fanning the flames.

Do your heels have metal in them? I learned the hard way that I cannot detect in my cowboy boots. Nails and shank provided for an extremely annoying time. I had to find a pair of military boots that are rated to go thorough metal detectors (like in a prison) to fix my problem. I only own cowboy boots, so it was a little odd for me.

As for the trash and ground balance, a more advanced machine would certainly help. But it will be slow going. I have hit a local park for 3, 3 hour sessions. In that time, I have only moved a total of 150 feet along a very narrow strip of land. It is completely trashed from a hundred years of people hanging around. Each swing of the coil brings 4 or 5 different hits.

I run the machine wide open, so I don't miss anything. I ground balance often as soil conditions change. I also CONSTANTLY mess with the sensitivity. Sometimes, when the trash isn't too thick, I turn the sensitivity up and shoot for some great depth. When I cannot see through all the junk, I must turn it down so I can accurately pinpoint. Part of the fun is the battle so to speak.

Most of those hits are old fencing material and iron bits. With my fast detector, I can hear coins in between the trash and recover them. Sometimes though, I have to remove the trash to accurately read what is in between. It is a flaming PITA.

My reward has been 20+ coins (some silver), a ring, and a musket ball (still trying to figure out why a musket ball was in a city park). I would have never thought that so much would be underground in such a very small area. I am waiting on delivery of a smaller coil to hopefully speed the trash separation process up. Should be here monday.

Anyway, consider an upgraded machine. I am quite new to seriously hitting this hobby, but I already have 55ish hours in on my machine and could not say enough about it. There truly is a language to a detector and once you learn it (I'm just starting to) it is quite interesting what it tells you. Also, be patient. A very trashed out area is simply going to take time. Like I said, 9 hours of detecting has moved me only a very short distance from the truck, but the payoff has been worth it.

Good luck,

WM

I don't think the heels have metal . I did learn tbe same with my steel toed boots. But this place , as someone mentioned was party central.. Beer cans, tabs, the foil from sinus meds, lol. Everything. Imagine everything in your house being drug out and strewn around... Along with the guts of tbe house and years if dumping on top. Even all tbe soil was weird ... Orange... And big rocks that came up as iron. I'd dig one small hole and pull out 10 nails , all kinda of foil, and debrey. I think you'd have to remove a foot worth of trash to even get to tbe ground:(. But I'm never taking my truck there again... So that was my first n last experience there.

Wow give a girl a break. I can't respond to everything immediately . As I stated way up in the thread, I have an Ace 250.. There is no amount of hunting that kind of site very successfully with this machine. And as I said " never again"... I'm not going back. I shared my detecting mess, cause I thought it was kinda funny.. Thought somebody else might think so to. also, there will be no upgrading anytime soon. I had to fight to get this one. We are a one income family with kids and lots of pets. The kids new sneakers, food and vet care all come before my hobby:)

There ya go the puzzle is solved, and Holly like I said before all you gotta do is take that piece of you that you show once in a while and maybe a baseball bat or better yet arm yourself and go detect any darn place you want to. I have absolutely nothing against you and I hope you don't think so. I'm no psychologist and I'm sure I can't solve any of your personal problems nor should anyone else on here. What I do see is inside of someone is exactly what it takes to do what she wants to. She's just got to flip that switch herself somehow. Apologies if I stepped out of line. :notworthy:

Holly, detect where you want, wear what you want and just have fun. And don't give the truck a second thought. Pickups were made to be destroyed, then you buy a new one and stick the old one out on the ranch or farm or give it to the husband to drive. Soon you'll be finding stuff and if luck smiles upon you, you'll find some valuable stuff. Just enjoy life and this hobby...
