ONE LESS "SNY BUCKLE"

Well I got out this morning to a new spot and thought I was going to be the first one to dig there but boy was I wrong. Their was dig holes everywhere and the worst thing was they weren't covered and what they found that was junk was laying at the hole. I spent the first hour covering holes and picking up trash. >:( >:( >:( Afterwards I knew if I was going to find anything I'd have to find a spot that this person probally wouldn't hunt so I picked the thickest area with an old barb wire fence running throgh it. Within minutes I dug a bullet right next to where the fence was down so I moved as much of the wire as I could and hunted it hard. I't was well worth the effort because as you can see I found an SNY buckle. It has had a rough life and doesn't have the lead in the back but it's my first and I'm very happy with it. Hope you enjoy the pictures....

Sweet find, congratulations. I never really get the opportunity for civil war finds in OH, but I have dug some dropped minnies, one from the Washington arsenal.

An S.N.Y. buckle is a choice find. That is a nice piece.

I am wondering if you found it in or near a fire pit? Did you notice any charcoal in the soil as you were digging about?
I didn't notice any charcoal or darker soil. The only thing that looked odd that made me hunt that area was alot of rocks on the ground in that area that weren't anywhere else. The face does seem to be burned. I started to clean it up but decided I'd leave it the way I found it...

Re: ONE LESS "SNY BUCKLE"

Nice find. Its a shame people don't fill their holes in. It gives us all a bad name. I really like the buckle. Those are really hard to find.

Re: ONE LESS "SNY BUCKLE"

Oh man, I have hunted 25 years and I don't have one of those. That is a great find. Congradulations.

Re: ONE LESS "SNY BUCKLE"

That is a great looking buckle. I like the buckles that are "roughed up" it makes you wonder what that thing went through. I have always wondered what the person who was wearing the buckle was doing when they lost it. A button can be easily lost, but a buckle you would think they would notice that. WTG

Re: ONE LESS "SNY BUCKLE"

Hello T. Cooper!
That buckle is an awesome find!
I'm certain here, in Southern Colorado there has to be a ton of relics but I'm yet to find
many other than bullets and casings. Too bad, to find them one must be where they are! :)
Phooey on the trash slinging non-cover up hole digger!
