Hi all. Was just wondering how many people cut their halves open with a utility knife. I've only done ten boxes so far, all skunk, and started cutting the rolls open in order to speed up my searching. I notice the knife cut on the coin edges and it doesn't matter on the junk but I'm wondering if I'm going to regret it if I find a nice coin. Any thoughts?

I bite my rolls open, then undo them with my hands and slide the roll out onto my left hand. If I'm sitting next to a table and a trash can I can clear a box in under 10 minutes. Some of you may think biting them open is dangerous, but I've bit open enough rolls to buy a house in cash with all the coins I've searched and have not gotten sick from coins yet.

Jimmy Johns is the bomb!

You ordered from the mint? The coins will always be 2012-P. Order from a bank next time to get circulated coins (some boxes may be solid 2012, too, but there should be some circulated ones also. Did you pay just $250?

Just 144 but still a rip off damn me! Haha

What denomination was it? I don't know why I assumed they were dimes, maybe it's because of all the solid 2012 dime boxes people have gotten.

I insert a potato peeler under one edge of the roll and pull up, then push the halves out with a Sharpie marker just like with penny rolls.

I've found the fastest way to open boxes is to use a pair of dikes to put a cut in the edge of the roll. Do this for the whole box before opening any. They tear right open with ease and it's much faster then using a knife! I will do a whole box of halves in 25 minutes and that includes rerolling then for dumping.

I use a razer knife But the fastest way is take the blade and just cut a line from one end to the other side cuting the coins face and all the rolls fast and clean. Or a wire snips and snip 2 rolls at one time.
