Panning in Virginia

Another newbie here with the fever. I was hoping for some tips on panning sites in Virginia. Been reading up on the gold mining history of Virginia. I live in Richmond area and eager to learn as much as I can about gold prospecting and metal detecting. Thanks also for this great resource....love reading the posts

There is a vein of silver that runs through Tazewell County from Christiansburg, Virginia towards the Cumberland Mountains.
There was a man in Tazewell County that counterfeited silver dollars from the ore. I would say if you check out the fault lines in those mountains you should be able to find the silver and sometimes gold is embedded with the silver. Good Luck.

10 out of 14 historically registered placer gold locations in the state are in Goochland county I'm not from the area, just throwing it out there maybe that'll help. Floyd County mentioned twice, Buckingham and Prince William Counties once. Hsampling
