Part of a sword?

I've just started water hunting the local lake in the last couple of weeks and have found some junk rings and some old parts to watches and machines. Yesterday I found this brass object that looks like a piece to a sword. Anyone know anything about it?

Yep, definitely this part of a sword. I'm thinking Civil War. The hole on yours is where the hand guard went in. Great find!

It appears to be the pommel from an 1850 Staff and Field Officers sword

Historical 9th Kentucky Inscribed Civil War Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword

Most likely the pommel cap off of a Model 1850 Foot Officers sword. Google it.
