penny with year error

I found a penny that has a error in it today. its a lincoln and in the year it says its a 19*3. where the 10 year didget is ther is a blob of copper. I am trying to get a good pic but its not comming out real well. has anyone ever seen one of these or know of the error? If so is it valuable?

ianjen..Just checked the Red Book and your coin would have to be a 1963,'73,'83 or '93 and didn't see any of those dates that would have an error..other than the doubledi strike. Maybe someone else will find something I missed. HH and GL

It could be a die break (a.k.a. Cud). If it is then it is probably only slightly more valuable. Here is an article about this type of error.

Thanks, it looks like from the information you sent that it is a die chip that is still stuck in the penny. I will keep it and add to my collection.

Probably die chip or "cud" or grease in the die but the first sounds more likely, either way it is a very common occurence and they don't command a premium.
