Found in woods on both colonial and civil war site. There is a hole on each side. Thanks in advance.

Don't see it working as a gun cleaning tool. No way to attach it to the rod.

Ruled out part of a friction primer, as it appears to be too long.

The gun cleaning tool idea, made me wonder if it could be a pipe cleaning tool. Whether professionally made or field made. Seeing some are found on battle sites, and lots of soldiers smoked pipes in that time period.
