I found this Hardaway earlier this year and I've always thought I was broken, but after carefull view and convos with some friends I'm not so sure anymore. Is it possible what points were made with one notch?? It seems that this point was flakes with only one notch was intended... I know nature can do a ton of wear and tare so I'm not sure. I want to know what you guys think. Hope this picture are clear enough. Try to do a 3D image, one side to another.

Probably broke in use and then they redid it to better suit their needs.

By "the more learned" you probably meant, Rusty, stay out. If so, don't bother reading. I think your point is missing an "ear" at the base. If you found if in a gritty tobacco field, it probably got tumbled and ground down to what appears to be purposely ground. I can see the lower notch still there with not enough below it to haft it. In Texas they have side notched pieces or corner notched. I have never seen it around here. Look at mine below.

This was found and ground down in gritty ground. Like sand blasting. The natives did find points and alter them according to their needs, but I don't think that is what you have.

your nice point had two notches when it was made
i have quite a few single notch points so a single notch point is not common but they do exist
on the front and back view you can see the remainder of the other notch
rusty is right it just has a broke ear

Does the word "balance" ring a bell? Oh, sorry. That's right, you said learned didn't you? Guess I'll go back to my Cookie Monster song on youtube, "You Got Cookie, Share It Maybe".

i think it was shear off. you can see on the broken side. that there is a small part of the notch left.right below where the ear would had been.
i think it got hit on the side of the ear and it shear off the ear.
or thay broken it when thay add the other side notch.you can see both side was notch.
so way would thay notch it,if thay wanted it to be only one ear.

Jonathon, it's possible it was reworked after being damaged, but from what I can see in your pictures it just looks like that part of the base was fractured off and probably by farm equipment.

It does look like there's whats left of a notch on that side. It may have broke when they were trying to notch it or in use. The business end not being broken still made it usable. Can't say if it re-worked after being broken in use or "made do" with after screwing up when making it.

Looks like the base is damaged to me too.

It looks like the base notch broke off either in manufacture or in the hunt.

Sounds about right to me, there is no discoloration where the notch should be, that's what had me stumped. Def an older break, as old as when it was made

I don't think it was made with one notch as much as I think it's probably a broken and salvaged Hardaway. If you were in the middle of the woods, cold, tired and hungry in the middle of winter, no fresh flint, lucky to be alive, you'd use whatever you had to keep you alive. I would! Nice point.

Guess you found out that the "Hardaway".

Ha.. "good point"
