Are my eyes messed up or is this 1971 D dollar really dd on the words one and dollar?

Actually there are several types of doubling on coins, only a very small percentage of coins with doubling are doubled dies. There is actual double struck, mechanical doubling, die deterioration doubling, abrasion doubling, pushed plating doubling, split plating doubling, master hub doubling, master die doubling as well as doubled die, it can be very confusing! This one exhibits mechanical or strike doubling which is caused by movement between the die and the coin as it is ejected from the dies. This is very common and doesn't really add any collector interest.
