Nice piece!! A great candidate for restoration imho..

I have a few that have been professionally done. I've sold a few as well, and they brought good money. Yes the buyers were aware.

Heck, I had a guy who authored a great plains artifact book trade me a great pf calf creek for a couple restored KRF pieces.

From what I have seen it will enhance value on a nice piece.

I see no problem with it, as long as the restoration is small and not done with the intention to deceive. Also critical to me, the restoration can be removed so the piece can be brought back to originally found condition with out damage.

I'd highly recommend Lithic Art Restoration......AKA... Dr. Gomer. He provides before and after pics, giving proof of what has actually been restored.

I'll put some pics on in a bit, his work is amazing.

I say go for it! Great looking point!

Here are the pics that didn’t come through For example

If it was me I would leave it alone. It looks like it is or was a variant of a corner tang knife.

Gomer does excellent work. Thanks for putting pics up Quito, those are smokers

I thought the same thing when I saw it. It looks like a corner tang knife of sorts (though it does look broken on the tang.) I'd leave it alone too... but that's just me.

The base on the original fyrffytr piece reminds me of a piece I have and have been wondering about just recently, I can see why you he be wondering about your piece.

I was struggling with the base on this piece, thinking just an odd single notch type, or possible small corner tang. To much patina to tell if it’s damage for sure. After much consideration, I am leaning toward Mckean with base damage.

If that is damage it was done soon after the piece was made.

I was told that it may be a corner tang also. Here are some pics of the tang and what looks like fresh damage to the notch at the tang. Or it could be a chip that looks like a notch and the notch shouldn't even be there. Is that clear as mud?

Thats just a ding and although its not a 10 now I would say its a 9.5 which is a good one in my book. Id leave it.

The fresh looking ding you mentioned sure looks like it could have led to that damage. If so, it won’t help make a case for a corner tang.

Hard to tell from the picture, just my opinion, but the stem does not appear to have the same flaking as the rest of the point, could it have been part of the core? Unfinished? Stem is pretty wide at that point compared to the other tang, possibly unfinished maybe. It has nice secondary flaking except for the stem and the knapper was certainly experienced by the looks of the rest of the point.

Hmmm................ Interesting thoughts.

I am starting to think that fyrfytr piece and mine suffered pretty much the same type injury while halfted. The break/damage area is very similar.

The ding does look fresh from what I can see in the photos, but that side of the base like it has been said looks like it was unfinished. It just to wide and thick, looks like it was not worked down at all. Great point but JMO I would leave it as it is.:occasion14:

The base shows plain ol (but nice) thinning strikes, it would be flaked different, the flaking there runs a completely different direction as well.

I'd bet big that it's a finished point that suffered damage on one corner of the base.
