Hello all,
Just so everyone knows, here is an awesome thing to do with your pop tabs from soda cans that you find while metal detecting... I am going to start collecting mine from my hunts in a zip lock and donate them when I have a bag or two...

Pop Tab Collection Program - Ronald McDonald House of Durham

Pop Tab Fun Facts

  • Approximately one million pull tabs = 800 pounds
  • Approximately 1,430 pull tabs = one pound
  • Approximately 63,360 pull tabs = 1 mile

Also, there are programs that collect tabs and give a child one minute on a kidney machine per tab. TTC

Unfortunately, you have to be local to them to contribute them in person. Since I'm not, I simply collect them. When I have a suitable amount, I'll cash them in at a local scrapyard and send them a check. If I dig up other trash that's worth recycling, it will get the same treatment. It takes a bit of the sting out of digging trash.

Awesome guys! Good to see that people are turning trash into real "treasure", making a difference in people's lives.

@Dave Rishar- So what metals can you recycle? I'm wondering because I started saving my metals and some are rusty hunks. Do they just take clean metals or will they take dirty metals as well?
