I could probably clean this a little better but I want to be careful.
Has anyone seen anything similar from an early florida shipwreck?
I'm almost positive that this is a broken loop on the top.
Any thoughts or comments welcome.
Also.. the lack of white oxidation is fairly common in the type of environment it was found.

Why do think it is lead? If it is a pendant from a shipwreck, it is more than likely made of Silver! A good conservation of the piece and testing would determine for sure.

It reads low on my detector and seems softer than silver to me...but I should probably test further.

Definitely not from a chainsaw.

It's a melted blob from heat. It has a small, non-melted piece still intact. I've seen countless pieces like this. May be from a shipwreck, maybe not. Interesting.

Great stuff...but I am with Darren on the "pendant". An object that size made of lead would never have any structural integrity. I find bazillions of small pieces of unidentified lead water hunting. It could be a scrap from the casting of a musket ball. Back in the day, people kept every little lead scrap they could find to recast into new musket balls.

So how's the lead pendant? What's up with that? Figure out what it is yet?

I did get as far as having a conversation with a gentleman from the historical society and was told that there are possibly nearly identical examples on display in the 1715 fleet artifact room at the museum on Seaway Dr
in Fort Pierce.
I'm heading there on Sunday.
