Here's one: Paid a $1 for 10kt gold bangle that was in a box with junk costume jewelry. The funny thing was that it was sitting out on a table at g.s. for two days before I found it. The mark was perfectly clear with naked eye but easily missed. You had to slide the bangle open and it was on the connecting piece. Just goes to show that you should take your time while looking at jewelry.

The trick is that the books need to have been recently published. I would guess that anything more than 5 years old is not going to be worth much. I got crazy lucky with the ones I found.

The best for me so far is several old poker chips I bought for a total of 50 cents, then sold for I think 157.50 (which surprised the heck out of me). I thank the History channel for a show about the history of Las Vegas, with a couple of the chips that I knew came from casinos that no longer exist. But my new one that I am working on this afternoon my wife reminded me that I bought them last year. At a garage sale that I got to late, I found some gas station water paste, which I bought for 50 cents a piece and sold for $5. But then I noticed a bunch of gas station pump printers in a box in the corner. I asked if they were for sale and she said $3 bucks and you can take them all. So, for 20 cents a piece, I got 15 thermal gas pump receipt printers. Turns out that they were pulled from a Shell franchise that went bust in town (they owned it). They were seperated (guy ran down to Florida with another woman) and she just wanted it out of her sight. Never forget to take advantage of a scorned woman! I don't have the sold price yet - getting them listed - but I am in good shape!

Wow! Great score! There are a few of those printers that sold on ebay for between $50-150. That could be a $1000 find! Great job!

Got this sight out of a dollar box about a year ago. It was a little rusty and cleaned up only fair it would have brought $300 had it been a little nicer it is a very rare item.

There were a lot of other great things in that dollar box but $200 for a $1 is a great deal.

Last month I got a sterling bowl that weighs 240 grams for a $1. One of my better sterling deals.

Here's one I forgot about. A 900 silver donkey. I was told the stone was emerald. But I dunno. I obviously was not told that by the seller though. It's 27 grams. And has been on my silver shelf. I listed it $300 Obo. I dunno what it's worth...

Recently picked up a Levenger sealed Circa Starter Kit (for note taking) for $1 and resold for $15+shipping. Not a huge profit, but I like easy to ship items like this ... easy $10! :icon_thumleft:

My best $1 find was two Helen of Toy games from the 60's in a bargain bin at a local resell store. They sold for $600 and $500 on eBay. Link to the old story here:

About 4 years ago, I bought an old gun scope that was for a 30's era Winchester at an auction for $1.

With at least 70% of the attendees wearing either camo or Carhartt, I was shocked that no one else bid on that scope. "That ain't worth nothin'" one guy told me.

It sold on ebay, in the dead of summer, for $247.

Levenger is a great brand, I picked up a small leather portfolio made by them last summer at a yardsale for $3, I knew nothing about leather goods but it looked nice so I went for it. Ended up selling for $60 or so.

Got a great score at the "clearance" stage of an estate sale. Snagged a small handful of jewelry including an unusual pair of clip-on earrings marked sterling inside the hinge. Gave up a couple of overpriced items but got the earrings for 50¢, and discovered later they were signed by J. Tostrup, a celebrated mid-century modernist silversmith. Started a 7-day auction at 49.99 w/ 79.99 BIN, saw a lot of interest before they sold BIN 18 hours in. Should have gone higher but can't really argue against those kinds of margins.

I would say so. The company Jones, McDuffie, & Stratton was actually an American company that collaborated with many of the top end English china factories of the Victorian era. They made stuff for Wedgewood, Doulton, Royal Worcester and as in this piece, Minton as well. They also made sure their name was put on every piece they made no matter who they made it for.
