I would set up a pup tent, be on meth all day(not really), and dig dig dig all freaking day and night till all the glass was found. Thats a gold mine brother. jgas

I had the good fortune to dig a spot like this many years ago, in a community dating back to 1835.

About a dozen great bottles near an alley.

I'd camp out there, work it with a MD, and when done. I'd roll around in the dirt like the dog in the cartoon! :laughing7:

Afterthought ........ if it wasn't an old privy site.

That spot is amazing, working demo I find some bots here and there but seeing a cache like that is insane. I would find every single one possible. That last bottle, the little flask seems to be from around the early 1870s. Nice finds, keep on hunting and posting please.

Found another

looks like it might be the last of it.The rest went to landfill unless we dig some more, they filled another privy with cement when I had day off.Its cheaper for them to waste 1000$ on concrete then to excavate the rest.

Beep, beep,

There's quite a lot of good history on Healy & Bigelow, thankfully. They were a couple of larger than life type characters, particularly "Texas Charley" Bigelow.

Digger Odell did a good history: KICKAPOO INDIAN MEDICINE COMPANY

They literally started in a tent: Snake Oil, Hustlers and Hambones: The American Medicine Show - Ann Anderson - Google Books

Here's a bit of the old Genealogy gambit: Bigelow, Charles (8) = cha83425.htm

It was their traveling Medicine Show that really captures my imagination: Entertainment in the Old West: Theater, Music, Circuses, Medicine Shows ... - Jeremy Agnew - Google Books

"...Buffalo Bill Cody to the contrary, no American Indian had ever heard of Kickapoo Indian Sagwa before 1881. In that year Sagwa followed by Kickapoo Indian Oil, Kickapoo Buffalo Salve, Kickapoo Indian Cough Cure, and Kickapoo Indian Worm Killer - Spring full-blown from the imaginations of two patent medicine promoters, John Healy and Charles Bigelow. The Kickapoo Indian Medicine Company was not the first of the patent medicine firms to send out Medicine shows." Sideshow World, Sideshow Performers, Medicine Show from around the world.
