So my buddies and I been washing gravel out from the various bars in the park to get the float/flood gold...
We have actually been finding a good amount each day we go.

My question is...
The gold we find all looks very yellow out in the sluicebox, on the black mat, under the sunlight.

However, when we get home and bluebowl the cons, we get some grayish material in the cleanup.

The gray flakes look and act exactly like gold flakes in the sluice and the bluebowl, and like I said, it all looks yellow out in the sun on the river, and the gray comes in all the same shapes and sizes as the gold does.

I know alot of people prospect up there and we have probably even seen each other in passing... so howdy!

Do you guys find a lot of lead from that park or is this in fact gold with a covering of mercury??

Ill try to get a good pic of my vial from yesterday...

Thanks for lookin!

Have we ruled out PGM's? Platinum Group metals.

It could be an alloy of PGM's. Just askin

Doesn't anyone chew on their gold?? I often bite on a piece that is questionable and that has never failed me... But I am pretty familiar with the area and I doubt it be gold that sun with make everything look like gold in the box sometimes and other times you black mat will be glittering with gold and you can't see nuttin becouse of the glare..

Kevin, you are always coming up with something cool, scanning electron microscope who'd a thought!! Sactosluicer One little piece would tell the tale of what it really is, sounds like a good deal to me.......................63bkpkr

Thanks bro! I hope we can find something cool to stick in there!

Kevin, I think I will end up sending you a sample, I really wanna know what this is.
Ill get ahold of you around the end of june.

For now, Im about to embark on a week of mining at the Roaring Camp claim, so excited!

wingmaster and madmarshall, I know the pics make these look like boulders, but it is all dust and flakes, not too easy to bite or hammer.

Bedrock bubba, nothing has been ruled out yet, hopefully we can do that in july!

sacto- from your screen name im assuming you live here in sac or somewhere near anyway.. point being baysavers on the corner of madison and kenneth has a machine (spectrometer?) to identify material...ive taken a few things there like copper and melted chunks of metal to get identified.it's free and they also have tons of crap for sale or to look at as well as some panning, sluicing, metal detecting equipment etc.. just thought you might be interested..

Welcome | baysavers.com

Well if it ain't mercury gold then it is a piece from chisels, screw drivers ,ect ect..manmade and broke!!A few years back I was digging out a crack and I was using the 3 foot bar well after I broke into it and panned it out I had some alright gold but low and behold there was a peice the shiniest silvery metal object about half as big as my thumb and heavy..Well I was excited wasn't sure what it was but it was big and must be worth sumtin!! well about an hour or so later Go to use the crowbar and notice that the bottom peice of the bar was missing...
Figures and before that I had a whole vial filled up shiny silvery stuff and it never occurred to me it was my tools being broke...Now every time I find sumtin silvery I check my hand tools..and most of the time I know where it came from... Anyway just sumtin to consider...Here is some things that I found recently in that area..I got tons of junk from that river some new some old...

The pans I had already the stick I found and my brother made it into a walking stick...

.....some dirty mercury will be gray....like lead.A large % of the time if you put any amount of mercury in a vial of clean gold....it wont be clean gold for long

Kuger is right what does it look like now?
