Sounds to me he was Trying to get a Conversation started
& You Offended him

Or he thought you needed the Money & You offended him.

I Would have Removed my Headphone
Plug & Said yep it works
& Swung over them.

Then bent down to pick them Up & Tried to hand them Back
thinking he just wanted to see it work.

When he said No it's yours I Would have
Smiled & Pocketed them, Saying not exactly why I'm here,
But thanks ! I'm not Proud :tongue3:

Funny how so many Complain that people around them are Rude
then describe how they would be Rude to the People
around them.

But it be cheating, he has to allow it to sink into soil natualy.

Your Walk into a Defunct Park
in the woods on a Rock you see a Gold Coin laying
You know somone detected it, Layed it there
then Forgot it.

Is it Cheating to take it Home & Post it here in Todays Finds ?

OR

One of che coins he threw was a 1916-D Merc.

He isn't Familiar with Coins.

Do you post it on TNet as a Find ?

I Would With the details of course :tongue3:

I have a $5.00 gold piece if you want me to post that ?^^ ;D

So your walking down a beach detecting, and there laying on top of the ground is a nice 2 carat diamond ring, is it cheating to pick it up and post it as the find of the day? No problem here for me, I would post it and even laugh in the post about it being on the surface................

I ocassionally run into people who throw pennies on the ground at the beach, I just ignore them and the pennies, if they say something I tell them I am hunting gold and diamonds, not pennies.

I have this happen at the beach, as I am walking people throw pennies in front of me...
If I see them do it, I walk around the penny, and pretent I did not see them
and I don't pick it up..
If I dig several shallow pennies in the dry sand at the beach that look like they were just dropped
I look around to see if I can see anyone looking at me...
Most people are not paying any attention to me ..

I just blow it off in my head and keep walking, people just think its funny to watch the guy
pick up worthless pennies that they throw in front of him...

Just like the kids that make noises as you pass, ... so what?? their just little children
(or adults acting like little children) I don't give them the time of day...

But it will be cheating, It has to be allowed it to sink into soil naturally.

For me, if I find it it's mine, end of story...
even if you see someone throw it on the ground I am the one doing all the work...
and if you don't, I can no more determine how an item got where it got and how, than I can
determine who the last person was that touched an old relic I just dug...
If it's on top then OMG I will not get blisters on my hands to get it...
but it's mine and I found it... fair and square !!!

I saw a guy bend down and bury something in the sand then kept walking towards me he said i left you a little something up ahead!!!

Well i slipped off one of my rings while adjusting the setting on my detector without him seeing because he was behind me see if i would find what he left!!! when i dug up the quarter he buried i turned around a yelled THANKS FOR THE RING!!! and slipped it back on my finger and said it fits!!!

Should have seen his face!!!!! :laughing9: :laughing9: :laughing9:

oh lord that is another post.... :laughing9: it fired up a couple of days ago....

if i saw a coin of something laying on the ground, i would "just happen to swing my detector over that" and then be like "oh, thats cool, i didn't even see that there, good thing i have my detector that helped my detect it!", then post it as a find! :laughing9: j/k

I once had a guy pull up in a car while I was detecting an old park. He rolled down his window, asked if I found anything. I told him "not much today." He tossed a quarter to me. I smiled, swung my detector over it and said, "...oh, hey, just found a quarter!" We both laughed and he left. I have no idea if the guy was a fellow detectorist who was just chatting, or if he was trying to be smart. Honestly, I don't care. What's that saying about "10% action / 90% reaction?"

Perfect! Wish I was that quick - I would've said "thanks for the quarter!" :laughing7:

Kinda had the samething happen to me this weekend while detecting at the local school. It had been vacant when I arrived and after about an 1.5 hrs the locals started showing up for a soccer game. I just kept detecting and swung wide around them as not to bother them. While staying out of there way 3 young (4th5th 6th grad type) latino boys came over and ask what I was doing. I explained to them, as I always do with all the kids the How, what's, whens, whys, of detecting and they followed me around for several minutes. They left and returned several minutes later and the one boy had a new 2009 penny in his hand. I told him that that was 1 of 4 new pennies issued in 2009 and explained about the newest penny for 2010. Again they walked of but about 20 feet away the one kid tosses the 2009 penny and strikes my detector coil then smarts off and says find it. I just looked at him and said "oh I guess your going to make fun of me now." I paused and said "it's ok to make fun of the old white guy, I can take it." They walked away never said a word and since I had been heading for the car I was very near and left.

I guess my theory of trying to be informative for the kids doesn't always work, but since this was a first time event, I'll keep trying until it proves to be futile.

and I ask why can't we enjoy our treasure hunting hobby?
I bet they said ( LOOK! HE'S MAGIC !! HE CAN PULL MONEY OUT OF THE GROUND!!!) If their parents can get them a toy detector they might understand us pro detectorists Were dead serious about our metal detecting very serious.

I wouldn't mind someone throwing rings in front of me at the beach, call it cheating all you want. :icon_scratch:
