r.r tags better pics

i went detecting in the woods today...my detector went haywire saying quarters everywhere.dug don about 8 inches and discovered to brass tags.cleaned them off alittle and found they were baggage tags. i rescanned and dug alittle dirt out of the hole and surprise!!!!!!!!!!! i found about 100 of them in great shape.all specific to the town i live in.did some reserch...1800s woohoo.there were lots more of the same signal ....but i didnt want to carry them all. seen on ebay they sell for $10 to $40 each!!! yeah im gettin the rest tommorrow.sorry bout the scans ,little blurry.i dont have a digicam so you dont get to see the pile right now,but heres a couple.and there are so many different shapes.

well heres tag totals...
131 great condition...
17 bent...
23 beat...
171 total!!! ok its not hundreds...but close enough for me!called my local historical society today...
the woman said...WHAT? i didnt tell her how many i had.if she only knew.
anyway super rare ...most of them were lost due to fire.
if i find out actual value i'll keep you posted.oh by the way she wants me to donate to the museum...ok, mabee a couple.
having problem with pics so i'll figure it out and post again later.sorry

I read your original post SK and I'm very excited for you. Not knowing anything about baggage tags myself, It's neat to know that you have unearthed a great treasure. Wow.....I really need to start searching the woods more. Thanks for sharing and congratulations!!

Oh, you will post, if I have to mail you a large, bulky computer-connected scanner to do so.
Then get the estimated value, donate one of each that you have at least three of, and if valuable enough... deduct from next year's income tax. Then write story, get W&E's FOTY award, hang on the wall, and then, and only then, send me a baggage claim. Or tomorrow, whichever works best for you.

I do believe there was a bagage tag on banner last year cause it was worth thousands.. Never use Ebay for pricing a item it is never accurate type in every tag that is different on google an search for sites that sell those tags always look at more then one site to see what the advage price is for that certain tag...

Congratulations on the great find! Looking forward for more pictures.

I will have to disagree on the creeper's assessment of Ebay. It is a good gauge on "what people out there will pay" for a certain item.

well i do not have 3 of the same kind they are all to different locations.i tried to post a group shot but i keep getting timed out.i only have a couple that are the same.i've decided to donate a few to the museum.they are doing a transportation exibit.most of the tags i have are undamaged.i will keep trying to post the group pics.

my dad sells alot on ebay(antique car parts though).i agree,you know what people are looking for.the town i live in is full of history.i know they will bring me some pennies just because of my location.i just hope there not zincolns...lol!
