r.r tags better pics

i went detecting in the woods today...my detector went haywire saying quarters everywhere.dug don about 8 inches and discovered to brass tags.cleaned them off alittle and found they were baggage tags. i rescanned and dug alittle dirt out of the hole and surprise!!!!!!!!!!! i found about 100 of them in great shape.all specific to the town i live in.did some reserch...1800s woohoo.there were lots more of the same signal ....but i didnt want to carry them all. seen on ebay they sell for $10 to $40 each!!! yeah im gettin the rest tommorrow.sorry bout the scans ,little blurry.i dont have a digicam so you dont get to see the pile right now,but heres a couple.and there are so many different shapes.

Hmm I am glad you made the banner. Since this was in a box, (the handles) and the lock?? Such is the question of why were they were they were and what else is there?? Some interesting story is behind this one. maybe some one stole the box expecting something else.. Ahh go over that place carefully.

171 total!!! ok its not hundreds...but close enough for me!called my local historical society today...
the woman said...WHAT? i didnt tell her how many i had.if she only knew.
anyway super rare ...most of them were lost due to fire.
if i find out actual value i'll keep you posted.oh by the way she wants me to donate to the museum...ok, mabee a couple.
having problem with pics so i'll figure it out and post again later.sorry

If you figured $100 for each one, on average then that's $17,100.
Then you have found a bonifide bonanza...
( I am sure that $100 is going to be very low for some of them)
you may have a $25,000 to $50,000 find..

there was a fire in the 1930s at one of the stations ,i think it was the dumping ground for some of the debris.and yes going over that area low and slow.the lock was actually about 15 ft. away.a couple of the tags are melted together.

RR locks are also very collectable and valuble sometimes several hundred dollars.....
Post a pic of the lock also if you can...

[/quote] Anything to do with Vintage Rail road is very collectable an a person who is uneducated on the subject should do research before getting rid of or donating anything they find..so they know exactly what they have an a good estimated value
