Nothing like that at all man. Just old crap that is more scrap than anything else. Heck guys on here MDing in the states finding live rounds is more serious than most that beach stuff.

Think it was always more a fiscal year balance sort of thing, hurry up and spend it before someone decides they do not need it next year. LOL

I know I'm very careful when finding unfired shells. And even though I detect mostly urban parks I do find quite a lot surprisingly.

I know there was an expert in the Southern US when it came to disarming CW cannonballs of the type that had gunpowder in them.

He had done 250 or so over the years but eventually managed to blow himself up probably by being to careless.

Here's a funny military story for you. When I was a kid I did basic training one summer as part of the military reserve well after it was over I stuck around for about a year.

Doing time evenings and weekends. Well one weekend we headed off for some war games bunking in tents, etc...

Well the Saturday after breakfast we get separated into various teams blue, red, etc.....I don't remember all the rules but the objective was to surround the enemy team giving them no route of escape then they'd surrender. And to confirm the win you had to set off a flare.

Well this WW2 veteran Sgt Major was giving us instructions on how to use the flares safely and showed us and said if you're not careful you can end up with some nasty powder burns. Well I guess he made the rounds of the various teams giving them the instructions on how to use the flares safely.

Turns out at the end of the day we found out he was the only one who messed up using the flares and ended up with some pretty nasty powder burns....lol.

We finished up most of the farming yesterday and had a cookout today was going to metal detect this afternoon, but i had a few beers and had to go lay down for a little bit. Did you go to that hunt you was talking about?

Yeah we had the group hunt at a beach in Toronto great time. Special guests Nugget Noggin from NC, Aquachigger aka Beau Ouimette from SC and Gary Drayton from Florida total attendees was 200 plus people.

Saturday I was on the beach from 7a.m. to 7p.m. then the admin group including me had a few pints Saturday evening. btw pints are 20 ounces not those wimpy 12 ounce bottles....lol. Well actually I probably had about 8 and headed back to my hotel on foot at about midnight or so.

And I was up and about for breakfast at 7a.m.....not bad for a 68 year old don't you think....lol.

So........I tried to make it to that light house, and walked the tracks all the way to the hudson. Went scouting with no detector. I eyeballed many artifacts. There were many iron spikes from the erie barge wrecks. I got 3 horse shoes !!!! Some other brass and copper artifacts, and a piece of an insulater. We had dinner and now were fishing. Just caught a small mouth bass !!
