I went out today, plenty of good signals but it was all junk, I'm running out of places to detect. The running joke at work about me is an impression they do where they scratch their necks like a crackhead and say "you got any landddddd?"

I do know where they all live though so it sorta makes sense.

You probably already know this but after 25 years of detecting I have picked up a few tricks....lol.

Considering most of my detecting has been done at 25 to 30 sites I've pounded to death. Wait for a good rain to recheck those overhunted spots. Go slow and do overlaps and I'd knock out only iron or for that matter not even notch that out.

Reason being whenever you put any descrimination on your machine you're reducing your maximum depth which is what you need at picked over spots. Another tricks I've learned recently is if your machine has a threshold knob turn it to the max this will increase the volume on the signals so you can pick up those deeper targets you might have missed.

I'll have to set up a patreon account to collect $$ for all this free advice....

Well I haven't thought of some of that, I've only been doing this for 11 months, my grandfather showed me how to use my bounty hunter in his yard on 27 july 2017. I'm not doing bad, actually really well for a newbie...but I know I'm missing stuff.

I'm aware of the saturating rains, and I always run my machines wide open zero disc. Today, I actually dug iffy signals with iron mixed in because I noticed iron piled up in areas from previous people.

I was not aware of the threshold thing though, which I may have to try. From what I read online and in manuals is there was a fine balance with threshold....not too low and not too high (your barely audible hum as many put it), you mentioned you also recently heard about this, I'm guessing it worked out well for you?

As far as the Patreon account goes...I did pay for a membership here to help with upkeep and fees because of the knowledge gained, which was a small price to pay in my opinion. So, if you make one and have really good advice I may subscribe haha.

I actually enjoy sharing info be it about gardening, cooking, metal detecting, etc....

Well on my Tesoro DeLeon machine they recommend set it between 10 and 2 o'clock which I had been doing. Then I got the bright idea to turn it up to max and it's still fairly stable. The reason I tried that was when detecting beneath overhead wires or along chain link fences I drop the sensitivity way down so I upped the threshold to compensate for the reduced depth and it seems to work ok.

I love hunting near powerlines that are above or below ground. People leave those places alone! In one spot near an underground hub I pulled out over 10 silvers, had sensitivity cranked wayyy down.
