Hey guys it's been so busy lately. I haven't posted in awhile, but I've been MDing a good bit. Today was one of my best days metal detecting! We spent two hours at the old middle school today. We've hit this place so hard. Anyway, I had my MD on for about 5 minutes in an area that we've pulled a good amount of wheats from. I was sweeping, wandering along when I heard a beep in the 80s/90s that made me stop and investigate the signal. I heard the high tone in about 75% of the sweeps that I made over the target, that is, if there was one. The ground was nice and soft so what the heck, I dug. I stood there looking at my monster clump in doubt, so I called over my dad who was using the White's Classic III temporarily. He had the disc. at min. and sens. high, and had to stick the coil inside the hole to even get a faint signal. (By the way, the Classic III can get very deep, often deeper than the DFX when the disc. is at min. and black sand is on.) But I went for it anyway; I was jabbing my digger and prying dirt up in the hole when I suddenly stopped as I noticed two silver dimes laying in the loose dirt. Oh yeah, I said. My dad heard and walked over and I showed him the Rosies. I scanned the hole again and got the same blips. It sure didn't sound like more silver to me but something else was clearly still down there. So I moved the dirt around and found another one. I rescanned...another one! Yeeha, my first multisilver coin hole!

With boosted confidence we both continued. I ended up near a fence that divided the woods from the football field. The branches were hanging over the fence and it was a kinda scraggly area but I hadn't been so close to the fence before so I gave it a whirl. I came upon an interesting signal. The VDIs were kinda messy. It pinpointed at around 5 inches. Yes, I dug. And I'm glad I did-I pryed up an object that I knew exactly what it was when I saw it: a gold ring! I couldn't believe it, especially when I saw the date: 1926! It's 10k with HMS initials. Are these initials from somebody's name? I don't really know what the ring represents. It's pretty small. So I continued on, and came accross another signal that was messy, ranging mostly from 50 to 85. I was very surprised to see that it was a 1948 Rosie, only 3 inches deep. I found 6 wheats in this area. Two of them were in the same hole with a 1957 nickel. My dad ended up with a silver Rosie in an iron rich area. So the take for the day for us was 6 silver dimes, 6 wheats, and the gold ring. Unbelievable I say.

The other cool thing I found recently was a silver fork at an old farm house. There's an initial B, I think, at the end of the handle where there's some kinda spot. All the other stuff I found here and there since my last post. This weather is great. I think the moist ground really helped us out today with maybe amplifying the signals. Anyway, thanks all for looking. For any questions on the stuff just ask. HH!

Alot of nice finds Nate.

Multiple silvers in one hole are great. Doesn't happen enough though. I guess were lucky just to pick up the singles they did lose.

OMG :o Nate, when you find it you really overdo it. ;D

Awesome finds. I too agree with the "M" High School, class of '23. Good luck on your research.

The elephant pendant, better hide it quick before Lucky sees it. He collects anything and everything associated with elephants. :D :D :D

Unbelievable Nate....Great find's....Multi's are alway's clad for me.Nice going and HH!!

Thanks very much all, despite it being a month ago, yeah, that was an awesome day to get the 5 dimes and the gold ring at one of my most frequently hunted sites in just a couple hours. It's my favorite ring by far. Hardy, that thing could be ivory I guess...it looked like a tooth at first glance. :D Thanks again guys, HH!

Great haul! Lots of digging, but well worthwhile.

I think you got yourself a lemon/cocktail fork. Something those Victorian Age people would have used. Those folks had a piece of silver flatware for every food item imaginable. With some research, you might even be able to determine the name of the pattern. And wouldn't that be special???!!!!

Those are some really nice finds, Nate and Bob, way to go guys. I'm sure your not out there hunting today! The weather just turned to crap around here in the Lima area. We have a little snow and if I know your area, you will be getting a lot of snow. Yuck!

Love the ring, you might go to a museum or library and look up old schools from the 1920's in your area. I'm sure there must be one with those initials. The history later on with the ring might bring more money at a sale. I doubt you will be able to return the ring to the owner because the person would be around 98 years old. But you never know. The oldest person I returned a ring to was 78 years young. He lost his mothers wedding band when he was 8 years old. So the ring had only been lost 70yrs. He just passed away two years ago at the age of 96!

Good luck the rest of the season, if there is any left. My partner and I got out yesterday and did very well. I'll post those pics later.

Thanks yall, hollowpointred that's cool you got the same ring. As for the gold ring, I think I'm gonna have to be left hanging on the mystery of it, can't find anything out...
Thanks Butch, hey I saw some of your latest finds...I think I might keep an eye out for that barber quarter on ebay... :o 8) Good to hear from ya

To satisfy my curiosity and the curiosity of others, I did a quick google search on schools, HMS, Ohio and only hit with 3 actual schools in Ohio.

Hawkin Middle School
Hudson Middle School
Hillsdale Middle School

Could be one of these 3...who knows. I didn't think they had middle schools in 1923 though. Those are the only 3 that turned up for HMS in Ohio but the largest return to the search was HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL. I did a quick perusal of the results and it looks like a ton of schools in Ohio have some kind of link to Harvard Medical School even though it is in Massachusetts.

Could be....just my theory.
