This is a Vermilion Flycatcher....rare for here. Only see it now & then, it stays hidden a lot so feel lucky to see it.

This one was also hard to get a picture of...it's the "Bully" of the hummers, the "Rufous". Pictures not very good, the dang thing wouldn't sit still for long.... but oh well.;)

More nice photographs! Thanks for sharing...

Great!! Keep 'em coming! I don't remember ever seeing the flycatcher before; or a hummingbird that color.

Thanks vpnavy. :)

texasred....I didn't even know there was a "red" flycatcher until I saw this one & looked it up...then saw it was rare. I did know about the Rufous, and there is another "red" colored one, think it's the Allen's. I heard the Rufous is one of the birds that migrates the longest distance...from Mexico to Alaska. :O

That's a pretty variety of Flycatcher. I remember enjoying seeing and watching the Scissorstail Flycatcher when I lived in Oklahoma.

I guess you don't have an pictures of the "Scissorstail" old digger? They're pretty exotic looking from what I remember.

It's the State Bird of Oklahoma.

Love that flycatcher Kat!! I don't think we have those back here in the northeast, I have never seen one before. It sure is a pretty bird!!

Old Digger, and Curious Kat, this scissortail looks different than the ones I saw back in Texas. The ones I saw there were colored more like the mockingbird then the one in your picture. Is there a difference in the scissortails in Texas and the scissortail 'flycatchers' in OK? Or are they both considered 'flycatchers'?
BTW, great pictures.

Thank you gunsil :) ... think they're mostly south of the boarder.

texasred....thanks and maybe old digger will see what you asked?
