Out today with the Cladman as Ironhorse isn't back in town for a while. To our surprise the place we went was plowed late last Fall and that gave us the choice of two good fields. I know IH wants to get on the bigger one so we left that alone and stuck to the small one which was early French. The dig was going to plan until we started popping Rev War buttons! :tongue3: Last year we had dug a couple but they were at the big field, not the little French site. Of course we were not complaining! The real keeper is the 3rd New York Volunteers button and should be quite a bit better after cleaning. Not much to see now so I added the image to show what it should look like. Cladman's other finds beside the 3rd was an RP - another Rev War Loyalist button (Royal Provincials), a ships token, French Liard (Circa. 1600s), Early French seal marked Joseph, and a very cool silver piece which we think might be off a musket and possibly the corner piece of a butt plate. I will post it on the what is it forum.

My finds weren't too bad either. RP button, a couple of French seals - one dated which is cool, a Communion token that is local to the area I dug it and a first for me, and a couple French Liards that are cut down and kinda neat. I have no idea what purpose they would serve like that.

So a good start to 2010 and my Iron Bro Ironhorse will be back soon, and the plan is set for hunts with what will be the rotating 3rd member. (Cladman, Romeo, & the Patriot) Look out PA Colonial Bros.... it's on! :headbang:

Well for your first hunt of the year you sure got to be happy with all that diggin after being cooped up since late December! What ashame some of those buttons were not a tad better in condition, but finding them in any condition is always better than not finding any at all. Congrats on a great 1st Day 2010 hunt......

Don

Awesome, I like the way you posted these finds. It makes it easy to see what you`re actually looking at. As usual - always interesting.

right on !!! I'm glad you were thinking of me when you guys were popping out the old French coppers, still has be some billion or silver waiting still!
ole Claddy always had the knack for findng some good old finds and he just pulls them out of his ...you know, that bit of silver is a killer find for one of the old Acadian sites

keep up the good work with the research and we'll kick it old school in a week or so!

just 2 more days til vacation and then some hole diggin'!

Looks like a great start, I'll have to watch & wait now until our season starts for real ;D

No, the thinking of you was before we started. Once on the French site the thinking was we want to cross over to the other site. :laughing7: The funny part is I don't think we would have had a better day even if we would have hunted the big field. The 3rd field on the east side, the last we got permission to hunt was was fairly long, well it's turned to. I told the Cladman we'd just wait and then the three of us would have at them all when you get back.

PS... The token is from Claddy's old area, NL. It was funny because after the French field we took off to one of his sites and it was the same place you, myself, and Romeo hunted for maybe 30 minutes last year. We parked on the side of the road and stayed pretty close to the water, and the only find I can remember is me digging a crotal bell. Anyway, I guess Claddy found a George I farthing and 1600s copper cob higher in the field. Not sure how because to me it still sucked, but I at least managed the communion token.

No big wheels? :dontknow:

Site was French, the copper site next door we saved. It's plowed and ready to go when Ironhorse gets back. There will be coppers!

Wish I could think of excuses like that :sad11: :laughing7:

Trust me, I was giving that field the eye.. but the weird part is we probably had better success where we were. Buttons from the Revolutionary War will always beat common coppers ... even cartwheels! ;D

So will hammered silver, but you still give me a hard time :laughing7:

The difference is I have found many cartwheels! :headbang:

Maybe next time they'll be better to post without the pictures from the books. But what can you do, all you can control is where you hunt, not what you find, or what condition that finds are.

If the condition had of been better those finds certainly would have been for real. A very nice 3rd American was in the range of a $1,000 button back when I started detecting. Unfortunately that was only for a friend's finds as my plowed field ones are usually pretty sad. But it is what it is, and I bet you won't see another on here unless we post it.

Well, it looks like it is game on. The Iron bros. are living up to the hype after all. ;D

A French Liard, huh? I call that one "Junkola." Actually, in my own words, "JuuuuUUUUuuUnnK!" :laughing9:

PA bros. - 2
Iron bros. - 1 :laughing9:

You made it happen as I told you to in the email yesterday. :headbang: I agree, game is on now, IP. :icon_sunny:

PA Colonial Bros -- 2
Iron Bros -- 1

We are heading out to a new site tomorrow. It is close to our last site, so we expect some Georgies and early coppers to pop. Because of Easter, it is just a cool down hunt for us, so we won't get too upset if nothing killer pops. If it is not super productive, we will be seeking permission for a new site for the 11th!

You can be sure on the weekend of the 11th the game will be on! ;D

BooYEAH!!!!

Scouted the area of the numbered map I sent you.... it will rock!

I scouted several Colonial tracts today...THEY will rock! ;D

I have more than several! So many that we'll never come close to hunting them in 4 days.

I have way more than several. We won't be able to hunt them in an entire lifetime. ;D

So do I but I'm only thinking of those 4 days at the moment.
I think were gonna have to be part of this deal......lets see went out today and found this Jim and I 3 colonial coppers 1 KG..... I seated quarter 1849 2 New York state Excelcior Buttons .... a number of flat buttons 1 ram rod piece a number of early spoon pieces 1 sterling silver spoon with the letter AW on the stem ,lanturn pieces and plenty more goodies.......Makes for a good day!

Keep on Digging!

Tell ya what Seeker & crew... I only have bad blood with the PA Bros but if you want a post showdown at freeze up for the years digs I'm game! Quantity and quality and we'll let the forum decide! ;D I think the PA Bros should take part too because by then I'm pretty sure they'll be in Iron Bros's dust. A CT copper, and single Spanish silver will only take you so far! :headbang:
