It was a warm, sunny day Saturday and I drove around looking for a site that was not covered with snow. After about 30 miles of driving, I found a site I where I found a 1784 half real last year that was bare. The farmer said he was surprised I didn't show up with a film crew.... I got the joke, they had filmed and episode of "Diggers" a couple miles down the road. First 10 minutes in the field I got a perfect 78 on the F-75 and I had "roundness" in the hole which turned out to be a toasted Draped Bust large cent. Next signal turns out to be a linked set of plain faced oval cufflinks.
Well I'm thinking this is gonna be a good day, and then the finds stopped ??? The next two hours produced a 1910 penny and that was it.

Nice finds! Roundness??? LOL Got it bit slow today

Your toasted copper would be considered in great shape for most of the ones we find down here (with the exception of my last hunt). Congrats on your roundness finds.

something is always better than nothing. nice job on the draped bust. i just got one equally as toasted if not worse but it was my first and an exciting find. keep the dream alive!

WOW Steve, those are great finds. Did the cufflinks have any motif on them? WTG, Q.

Quindy, it's always special to find a linked pair of late 18th-early 19th century cufflinks because they are usually found separated. More often than not they also have a neat motif on them but in this case they were plain.

Nice finds, Steve. I've found 3 draped busts...got lucky on my first one and had beautiful details. Other 2 kinda looked like yours. Still a cool find.

Great looking Large Cent!

Congrats. Love the large cent!

Steve, at least you found a spot to hunt, despite snow on the ground in most places. I hear you on toasted Draped Busts, they seem to be the one grouping that does worst than many of the other types of coppers for some reason. Nice getting a linked pair of cufflinks, I had a few that I thought were plain faced but upon careful examination, I found evidence of designs. So maybe a year from now you will look again and see something on it. :)
My hunt was just the opposite of yours yesterday, nothing in the first two hours and then I got my half cent and lead seal at the end of the hunt....

Toasted or not its still great to find a LC

good hunt! I love the cufflinks.

Any day w a large cent isn't bad. Real tough to dig one out here. See u next week hopefully in a pit full of glass!

Steve , many times I start out slow and " fizzle out " all together , then times where it never ends , keep kickin' it in the you know wat, seems to balance out .
Plan B is to go old school , break out the 1266 X & back down the disc , those green disc's can be deep ,, ya have too coax them out of hiding .... still ya did well from what I see :coins:

That's one thing I am learning about hunting fields. The hits seem to go from hot to cold and back again with no in between. :) Does keep it exacerbating, but kinda fun too.

Nice finds!

HH!

Looks like decent finds to me. I would love to find a set of cufflinks! Also seeing how I cut firewood, in 14" deep snow on Saturday morning and can only day-dream of "roundness" right now, your posts give me hope for a chance of one day being able to get swinging myself.

Hey at least you found something:) I love that show diggers. Was that the one where they were in Gettysburg? Loved your roundness in the hole coin:)
