Round Stone-Artifact?

I found this rock in my backyard a few years age. It's circular, approx. 3" in diameter and 3/16" thick. There are small carved notches in places around the circumference. I've seen similar notches on other rocks I've found in the area. The other notched rocks sometimes resembled crude bird heads. Someone once referred to them as carvings, but didn't know who carved them. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure it's stone? It almost looks like a piece of bone that has been gnawed on by rodents.

I'm sure its stone, fairly common. I've several other pieces, what I refer to as bird heads, made from the same material. I've noticed that several of them have that red colored stone as if it was added like paint or something. For example, the tip of a beak will have just a hint of red. I'll upload a example. I remember reading somewhere about red ochre and connecting it with these rocks, its been a while, I'm not sure what the connection was.
