Roundness - King George I

With the hardest part of the year over - frozen ground from early January til March - I got out Friday evening and went to my favorite park that has some colonial history. Worked an area I typically never go and had some luck. As this is out in the woods, I typically don't get much noise so hits are usually something decent.

My first hit was a 12.43-44. I was hoping for silver but found a '79 Washington Quarter. Bummer, but on to the next one. I hit a 12.40 next and instantly thought twist cap. About 6-7 down I found this coin. Took it home and cleaned it up, now I have a new "oldest" coin. The date on a KGI is on the back and the back is almost completely gone. I'll call it a 1714-1727.

You may be able to narrow down the date range based on the diameter. The earlier KG1 had a smaller diameter. Also, it looks like there may de a dirt crust on that one that may be hiding some detail.

I measured it with my caliber and it's irregular, tough call cause so much has corroded off. No part is over 28mm but there's some missing around the edges.

Also, I quit trying to clean it. The outer copper is flaking off.

I think it's safe to say your coin is 1719-1724

I have an early British copper I’m not sure about. I thought it was a KGI but this makes me think, hmmmmm
