It is with heart felt sorrow that I have to announce the death of 2 of my beloved Garretts. They served me well and after 25 years they have succumbed to old age, over usage and the elements. They had signed donor cards so that shafts, battery clip bars, coils, coil covers may help other Garretts to live and lead a productive life. They are survived by One Freedom 3, Two Freedom 3 Plus, Seahunter MK11 ,AT Pro and the Bluenoser..
No flowers please but donations can be send to the National Digaholics Recovery Center in Hubbards, Nova Scotia. Burial will take place on Friday....garbage day!

Gone but not forgotten and forever in my swing!

I agree stuff him and mount him in the garage,! Reminisce. :metaldetector:

yes i would never throw them away i would hang them on the wall like ones here said.. in the garage or basement or rec. room ….. I would have put liked on your post but since you said you were going to put them in the garbage i could not give a like.

I agree - mount them on the wall! .. after you gold plate them!

My heart felt condolence, they will live on memory and past finds! I was not as brave as you my 4900 DI Pro is forever (or at lest for now) entombed in the hall closet. I could not even give it up as trade in on my new one. I said I need a back up, even though it isn't working....sigh.

Sniff, Sniff...At least you know that your detector is in a very special place in the sky! :angel4: RIP....My condolences...

My beloved CZ5 is almost 20 years old and I'm afraid the same fate awaits. Hope she has a few more years left in her....A detector that you are so familiar with is hard to replace no matter how old it/he/she is. Hope you will find another! Remember, you have to move on....

My condolences for your loss, lol....but a burial or a general 'haul away' seems so harsh and impersonal. Perhaps a memorial display would better suit those old friends

Hanging coil, shaft, and control box on a black lace backing, high on the wall above the major finds they made.....add some nice accent lighting, a plaque with pertinent 'life' info, a vase filled with flowers.

Yeah, ok, a trash bag and a toss into a waste receptacle is much easier

Leslie,
Only 25 years, send it in to Garretts and ask for a refund. :)

I myself would have filled with pull tabs and buried so it could have been buried with friends then a future detectorist could have found it and wondered WHAT THE HECK.LOL:tongue3:

I always get a tear and a giggle every time I read one of your posts. Thanks!

At least they lived a long and healthy find-filled life. The heart of my Explorer SE gave out very young and Minelab will not preform the life saving operation for anything close to a reasonable cost to save it. They even want money just to confirm it's terminal, as if it wasn't bad enough already.

Not a long life span for a detector… But that is what minelab wants … A short life span so they can sell you a new detector..

Channel your inner hoarder.....keep them for sentimental reasons.

That and make it crazy to pay a lot for a used one with no warranty. I bet used Minelabs would be much MUCH tougher to sell if all buyers knew what saving a bit of money could cost them. I don't think I'll suggest this brand to anyone starting out or looking to upgrade, because I'm sure you can grow to love detectors from other companies just as much, because many do.

So sorry to hear of your loss! Put them in a shadow box and hang them where you can see them everyday so you can remember those great times you both had on those fantastic sunny days!

At least Recycle them..

They :metaldetector:may come back to you in many forms ; you never know...:happysmiley:

You know there is a lot that have older detectors that need parts so sell them for parts ..
