After a terrible 4 hours or so, scouting mission on new land we returned to where we know. (see above)

2 hours produced:
4 scrappies to the total
18th century silver plated Clog Clasp (first silver type ever)
Took me awhile to figure I had a new & unpublished (I believe) type of 16-17th century hook hasp (fluer-de-lue)
New type of 17th century token for the collection (seems to be the year of the new tokens 8))
1620s Royal Farthing
and bits....

Ended up OK I think

The field we spent the most time in was hundreds of acres in size & is by no-way written off. Remember I told you choice can be a bad thing, ie. we knew we could do better elsewhere, so we returned. We will continue to hit the land in bite size pieces until we hit a hotspot. Until that time we will continue hitting our already know sites.

Keep trying those fields (if you can afford to, did you have words with that farmer?) until you get a noisy area. We could hardly find a iron nail :P

Sounds like you had a pretty good day! :) Congratulations! :)

Very good finds. :)

its all a bit tough at the moment, too much going on even though a field which i know is good has become avalable.
ive been looking at this for years.
on old maps it is called "bloody mead"
somebody told me it was a roman battlefield and i have seen detectorists over there but i think this was more likely so called because of the slaughter of livestock. i have found lots of cattle horns at the river bank which is at the bottom of this field.

That is a fancy clasp. I like those little Charlie farthings too

I am jealous, in my next life I want to be born over in England so I can find stuff like that.... ;D. WTG...cool digs....

Don,t give up hope shaun, I have an idea ;D ;D ;D. England not that big and crusader cannot be more than a few hours drive from you. Why not tee up a trip with crusader and he can show how to find the roman silver. Its nice to get written advice but nothing beats a hands on experience. Crusader how about giving shaun ago as hes not having much luck.

tinpan ;D ;D ;D

I had the exact same idea. However the chances of a roman silver are tiny. I have had none this year (Dad has 3). TK would be a better option for that. I would be able to put him on a few bronzes & medieval pieces.
