I have been metal detecting for about six years now and pulled my first Indian penny last summer. Boy was I excited about that, plus to top it off it was my oldest being a 1902. Today I was back at the farm where I have had some awesome luck and hit a weak signal about five inches down. The signal went from penny to silver and back down to foil, but I thought what the heck it was time to leave anyways. I dug the plug, flipped it over and BAM! she was laying right on the side of the hole at the bottom. She was really caked with dirt and it took some hard blows to get the dirt off so I could read her. I thought she was a wheatie at first, knowing my luck! :P
But, then I saw that beautiful wreath on the backside and I was super pleased. The date of 1905 was pretty visible as well after the breaths. My second oldest coin to date and not too shabby either. She is a nice green patina with nice details. And to think, I almost didn't dig her. But I will say this, the signal that she gave off I have heard before on the property and passed over looking for more promising targets, so I will be going back for those signals!
Happy hunting to all!
