Today the Se gave me another look at what it can do...it got the usual clad...pinpointing was perfect and the ground was soft. Got a 26 and 58-d wheatie, and a 35 merc that was so deep the flat metal handle part of the Lesche was inside the ground! :o Damn I am gonna love this machine! Here we go...fired up...fired up...yes...this machine is what I have heard...2nd silver for it in just a few hunts......... :sunny:

Good finds Gregg!!!

I own a DFX and an Exp II with all the coils for both. I think you'll find as I did that the Explorer has an edge in depth. It seems to be a silver magnet and the DFX seems to do the same with nickels. You and I seem to have the best of both worlds. I have never been hung up on brand name only, just performance. After all, all those hours we spend sweating and digging should be as productive as they can be. I've had Whites equipment for 25 yrs or so and found lots of cool stuff but the Explorer opened my eyes that there may be something thats potentially better in some ways. So....I own them both but always favor the Explorer. The user is the one that can make their machine perform best and thats the most important part of the equation no matter what brand or price detector they use. Good luck on your new machine and let us know what you think about them after using them both for a little while. I don't guess it really matters one way or the other but its supposed to be about fun and using either of these machines will be fun no matter what.

Have fun digging,
Steve ;D

Steve what a great post! :) I feel exactly as you do... I spend a ton of hours detecting over the course of a year and agree with everything you said... The se is going deeper for me and the dfx hit four nickels in a row today! I really like the variety and think I will be keeping both... I want to find things and do not care if the detector is black green red or white... Being stuck on one brand of detector is not for me... I am enjoying the challenge the se offers and can hardly wait each time to turn it on! :happy11: Thanks Gregg

Nice digs,

Thanks Gregg for your reply!

I'm glad to see you're openminded like me. And it makes me feel better that you are finding the same results as myself. I see people argue about what brand is best. And I would like to point out that there are other brands that do very well also. I just don't own them at this time and I can only relate to what I own. I really like having both our machines and I plan on having them both to rely on for my metal detecting. Having a great backup machine either way no matter what you use is to your own benefit.

Several months ago I got a friend of mine who had just started with a budget priced detector ( Whites ) to see the advantage of moving up to the DFX. He has never looked back and can't thank me enough. His finds have skyrocketed up and he has found some coins he only dreamed about. I usually hunt with the Explorer with him, so he can see how they compare at the end of the day. All I can say is he is one happy digger now and is fired up and ready to go. I just like to see people get some really good equipment if they can afford it and see the smiles ;D on their faces when it pays off.

Like I said, it's about having fun and I like to make the most of my digging time. All I can say about detecting for over 25 yrs is " you usually get what you pay for." Not everybody has a budget to buy the best but I do like going behind them and finding everything they missed. The deep stuff belongs to the models and brands that prove it everyday. All you have to do is watch the post of everybody and make up your own mind.!!!

Best of luck learn that SE. You only will get better with each passing week and will continue to be amazed!

Steve

Nice job on the deepies! ;D Ahh I can't wait until I get my Minelab Explorer SE!
