So it was one of those says where "I don't have much time-where do I go?" So I hit a wooded trail where I've been before, hitting places where people might have sat down, logs, mossy patches, etc. By one log I pull a 22 bullet, nickel, penny, toasted clad dime, then the grey dime pops out 2" down under some moss...Ahh, yes! 1874

I dug a seated coin yesterday that had that same dark color.. They seem to get that way when they've been in the damp ground for so long. Nice find!

Yeah, looks like you did well.
When the coin is this old I rather not clean off the darkened finish.

Takes a very special person to find those randomly dropped items. No doubt there are amazing items to be found that were randomly dropped or discarded. Well done!

Great find - I dream of finding a seated anything !

:notworthy: Congrats on the lovely seated dime - must've felt super seeing it emerge! :hello2: Andi

Nice find, way to go!

That's one pretty seated

Wow. Congrats on that one. Thought I had one last week in a beat up CW camp and turned out to be a Barber. Love the Seateds.:icon_thumleft:

A great coin in nice shape. Congratz

Thanks - there definitely is a randomness to trail hunting but there's usually some clad if its old and used. I know some real old trails that aren't used that don't give up much but a cuppula ole shotgun shells.

Love the character, the great patina, of that coin. Great pick up!

Nice find! Does it happen to have a "CC" on the back of it?

Ha, no it did not! I should have mentioned that there is no mint mark. Apparently the CC mint mark brings in thousands for the 1874 seated. Ooh... Yes I checked and double checked.

I did enjoy reading the rich history of the mint from the years of 1873-1874. Lots of changes were taking place then.
