I found this near an 1840's cabin site. It is made out of either copper or brass.. Those are square nails sticking out of it. It measures about 2-1/2" long by 3/4" wide. The picture might not be too clear but it has a 1/4" flange. I almost threw it away but I noticed a date of 1858 on it.

Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Thank you

We call them segs :dontknow: why

I noticed in your pic the manufacturer was blakey and they were labeled as blakeys/segs. Maybe there was another manufacturer that name was segs, segway, etc. and the name derived from the maker. Just a WAG.

Pieces no. 3, 4 & 5 in the pic Silver Searcher posted are marked "segs".

I agree with 72cheyenne that "segs" is a different manufacturer. If made by Blakey I would consider it a brand.
