I've had this piece for a few years now and always had a thought about splitting this rock to see inside, is it worth it?

I don't know what type of mineral this is if anybody could help me identify it. It was picked off a coast of the Saint Lawrence river in eastern Canada. It's decentry heavy definitely not on the lighter side, I've washed it off with a brush and water and some parts of the rock seems to retain moisture more than the outer shell? If that makes sense, seeing the darker parts of the rock that haven't dried yet. It also has tiny specs of yellowish spots in a few areas of it shown in one of the focused pictures. Identity of the white mineral would be super appreciated! I will also update if I split this in half through the crease shown on one of the darker still-humid spot post scrubbing.

Yes I would break it into smaller pieces and look closely with magnification for interesting crystals. I cannot tell what the rock type is from these pics, and the white crystals are probably Calcite or Quartz which you could test for easily by testing with HCL or strong Vinegar.

From the images alone, I would guess common basalt. Quartz inclusions, yellow, brown, white, green. I have seen quartz inclusions, veins, crystals and vugs in basalt all over the western states. Your rock appears no different.
