I'm sure this has been asked a million times, so here goes a million and one..... I use a smaller big box brand shovel for when I'm in the bush. It works for the areas where I generally hunt. I may be going into more "rootier" areas. My question is should I invest in a predator tools shovel or are they kind of gimmicky? or are they really worth the investment? :icon_scratch: any personal experiences would be appreciated. I hunt about two to three days a week work permitting if that makes a difference. Thanks all for the input.
Cheers!

Well, I use the Lesche digger when im out in a public type area....and I actually bought a custom shovel from Sask hunter right here on TNET...I can tell you that its made Extremely well, and was much cheaper than a Predator. Plus he can sorta customize it a little to your needs.

Totally worth it

I've got the Model 65 Ranger from predator tools and I will say that thing is a beast. I've used it for just over a year and its still doing a great job. Its very well built, so you don't worry about it breaking. It is a great tool to use in wooded areas to tear through roots or in a yard to cut a nice smooth plug. I wouldn't want to go back to a short handled retail shovel after using my Ranger.

I have a Lesche 7"x2" digging tool I use regularly. It's great for parks, homesites, etc.
I also have a 36" Lesche "Ground Shovel". Both are unbreakable! But I wrongly bought the ground shovel for fields!? It is superb for digging coins, as it is semi-circular, but for fields I love an old adjustable Army shovel.
Good Luck.
Peace

Well, it would have been nice if you would have mentioned what type of soil you plan to attack!
Let's be honest. Any shovel will dig a hole. What we are talking about is how long will it last.
My shovel is a D handled all steel shovel that I purchased at a garden supply store. It was called the shark. It is now 14 years old and has dug many caches.
After I purchased it, I painter it yellow with that plastic dip which I had thinned to use as paint. It now comes in a spray.
The yellow makes it easy to find in the woods as I can't carry it using a 2 box. The yellow also makes it less likely to grow legs. lol

Now in the woods, I usually don't use a shovel I use a 3 tooth tine to move the dead leaves, dirt and small rocks that are usually there.
I guess everybody uses the method easiest for him. Frank...

I use the Lesche Sampson with T-handle and Serrated Blade. Worth every penny in the woods. When on farm fields however I use a $20 shovel from Home Depot. GL HH.

Yes I should have mentioned soil and terrain types. I plan on some AZ hunts in about a year so AZ soil, also north western Ontario-heavily treed, rooty softer soil (unless it gets really dry then its like hard packed soil. A lttle tuff with regular shovel but manageable. Also wooded areas in calgary. Drier soil but manageable with reg shovel. I should have mentioned I have one wrist that is buggered up and looking for a shovel that might make digging a tad easier. Like I mentioned I can manage, but if I could make digging easier even just a little it sure would help. I should have put that in the original post that may have helped too. anyhay thanks for all the replies. I will continue to research a bit. Cheers again.
